I voted Conservative in the last General Election for one reason only - this EU vote. We here in England have got to get out of this badly run little club before it collapses.
The result will depend on a few things. Will the young people come out and vote? The older folks will for sure. If the young can't be bothered to vote, we will exit the EU.
If they leave, Britain will be the first to leave the EU, and probably not the last. It could and very possibly will be the beginning of the end for the EU.
If they stay, Britain will be increasingly overrun by immigrants from all over the world, raising real problems for national security and undermining job security and wages for British citizens. It will result in Britain increasingly be absorbed into the EU, effectively abdicating whatever national identity it historically has had.
Will there be an Abraham Lincoln moment, to preserve the Union?
This it one of the most important news stories of the year, and the American media is all but ignoring it. If the UK exits the European Union, Scotland will probably vote for independence, other member nations might possibly exit, and what remains of the Union will probably try to integrate even further, and become even less democratic in the process.
Ive never understood why Scotland would want to breakaway from the UK only to become a vassal state of the EU empire. What's the point? Why become independent only to turn everything over to Brussels? Why not just stick with London's rule if you want a master to lord over you?
That said I think the EU empire will come crumbling down within a decade unless the French and the Germans end this obsession with turning the EU into a Franco-German Empire. A trade agreement is one thing but Merkel's endless attempts to declare herself dictator of the EU are not going to go over well.
I am betting the UK votes to remain in the EU. Either option has its pros and cons. Leaving would be too drastic. They already get to opt out of many things.
Just my prediction. I certainly do not have a dog in this fight.
