The Catholic church wields a LOT of influence.

Why doesn't the Italian mafia do something?

Must be something like a, business first, family second, kind of thing.

That famous movie line - "They would rather eat their children than part with their money, and they love their children very much."

Not unusual for that time, though. 1962 is not 2016. Child molestation was not publicly discussed or acknowledged back then.

Around 1970 or 71, a boy (about 12) i went to school with was molested by a guy on the town ambulance corps. The boy was in a program for kids to learn about volunteering with the corps. He told his priest, who called the cops. They made the molester leave town. My friend was sent to a psychologist for a little while and told to put it behind him. It was not made public.

The story came out 25 years later when the same guy was arrested for child molestation, only now the world had changed and reporting and prosecution was demanded. My friend, now an adult, went public with his experience and how it had affected him.

Because for some reason, people need something real to prove to them that they are a member of...for some reason, they think they are spiritually connected by belonging to a church...what they fail to realize, you can be spiritually connected without a church...it isn't about attending church...although the church wants you to think so...b/c their members create a job for the priests...if they didn't have any members, the church would pretty quick fold.

and yeah, that movie is so correct.

yanno, I've tried so so many times to bring awareness to Sexually abused children, and no one seems to want to talk about it or get involved. It is very annoying....when I try and talk to people for instance, in the church etc...to get a movement going against it...people give you this blank stare and walk away?

I cannot believe it....

So, I'm glad they created this movie, but I really don't see it changing anything unless people themselves stand up and start being vocal about it.

And to date, no one seems to want to do that....

Everyone lives in their protective plastic bubble which they call life...that they've created for themselves, and they don't want to allow anything uncomfortable in...I've even had some women friends whine, "Oh I don't watch the news, it's way to negative".
but if it happens to their child, then all of a sudden, it's this huge horrible tragic thing....grrrrrrr
I'm sorry, but, I loath anyone who continues to walk into a Catholic Church...its the people who give them the power....
I couldn't believe it when the Pope came here...geeze Louise, he's just a man, not a God!!!!

It's not blaming the church for the sinners in it, it's blaming the church for protecting the criminals in it and that protection apparently went to the top of the hierarchy. That's indefensible.

Wonder why they don't think about God's word to take care of children. Rather than leading these children to God, they most likely do the opposite.......I wonder if they ever consider this?

Does seem all 3 major religions have child abuse among them and child marriages, the Bible as far as I know never says to marry the children, let alone have sex with them, where are these so called religious people getting this?

If you know anything, you should know by looking back into history how rich and powerful the church always was.

It is also beyond my comprehension that a man, a human being can say, "your sin's are forgiven"?

and we're also told that no one should bow down to any other man or idle....

and yet, people treat the Pope as if he is a God...makes me ill, when so many children were sexually abused by these so called Priests.

In the movie, it explains what happened to these children...if they are still alive, and yet, no one comes forward to say, enough! People still flock into the church, which is sick...and they should be ashamed of themselves to put so much power in another human beings hands.

Why is it people need leaders so badly, they ignore the atrocities bought down on children, in their own neighborhoods, by these so called men of God? Sheesh....

Human beings never seem to learn....and so, 2,000 years later people are still putting so much power in the very thing that preys on their children....pathetic.
Good post! I wonder how many churches in America start their Sunday service praying for all those Christians in the ME being slaughtered for their faith.

Like the Pastor that was being held in Iran has returned back to Boise, yet no one including him is addressing is pornography issues. So was the wife lying, is the church going to ignore this or is the Pastor just glad to be back in America and will never have to address this.

yeah, it's crazy...honestly....I don't understand it...
Not to mention, when you are a child and sexually abused....your spirituality goes right out the door, b/c no one does anything...your basically left to deal with it alone...

It is a life changing event, and a horrible one for these kids....they're innocence is stripped clean from them...it is so unfair, and people just sit around and do nothing?

Thank you 3 Shepherds for your reply...it is really disgusting...
In the movie, it said, it takes a village to raise children, and takes a village to molest them...
What has happened to our village?
