Another mystery that must be examined very carefully in the days and weeks ahead: How is it possible, that Flint “passed” the official EPA Lead and Copper Rule sampling overseen by MDEQ? In our experience, following the EPA site selection criteria targeting homes with the highest risk for lead, the MDEQ sampling should have found much worse results than our sampling. Instead, MDEQ is asserting that the lead levels in Flint are much lower. Hence, we call on the U.S. EPA and others, to conduct a detailed audit of the 2014 and 2015 LCR sampling round overseen by MDEQ in Flint, to determine if it was conducted consistent with requirements of the law.

I posted the article earlier. Lots of resignations and one firing. The regional EPA head resigned.

Seems like there were a lot of blind eyes and rubber stamping going on.

The EPA is not very strict about this annual mandatory reporting. Not all agencies send their results to the EPA and the EPA is fairly lax about follow up.

A little Google research reveals that the elevated levels today are still far below the pre-1991 standard of 50ppb.

It also reveals that the water is safe for flushing, bathing, irrigation of crops, and watering lawns. For the bargain price of about $150, homeowners can install a filter system which removes 99.99% of lead.

Care to share a link to the place that claims these things? I can't find anything that backs them up.

I don't know about the 99.99%, but filters do work.

Listing Category Search Page Results | NSF International

I picked one at random and the lead removal was listed at >95%.

Is this a joke or something?

Two weeks ago, not one one Republican cared about the Flint water crisis. The issue never even arose in the GOP debates, though the size of their genitalia was front and center during their shouting fest.

Now people are bashing Dems who refused to promise some woman that they would replace every water pipe in the entire country.

Is this for real?

This link seems to provide a reasonable narrative of the topic of lead pipes. The Governof of Michigan does not know how many pipes in Flint are lead, let alone the rest of the state. No one knows how many millions of homes in the US have public and private lead pipes.

Generally speaking, a municipality is responsible for public pipes and owners are responsible for pipes within their properties.

The states, not the EPA, are responsible for enforcing the Clean Water Act.

Flint represents about 1 % of the state's population. It's a classic, till it happens to you, most people don't care.

Although Fox completely avoided the entire topic of Clean Water/ Flint, Trump did say he would eliminate the EPA. Maybe the US people can drink Trump water.

It seems likely, Trump will win in Michigan, tonight.

I don't think I'd ever believe the feds would have absolutely no influence in these cases.
Influence= money.

How much of the cost of replacing an unknown millions of public piping will Congress pay for?

Then there's the interior piping. That's the responsibility of the property owner.

Who is they?

This is a state issue.

Where the EPA can be faulted is for wasting time attempting to persuade the state to take ownership to address the corrosion.

The state still does not know how many homes in Flint are impacted, let alone the rest of the state.

Please share which Republican candidate has promised to replace all lead pipes ( public and private?) throughout the US?

Congress controls the purse strings. Please share how they are itching to commit an unknown amount of money to replace an unknown millions of lead pipes throughout the US?
