I don't think they're not intellectually honest.
I think that they tend to be naive about human nature.
A naive but honest person would accept facts and truth when presented. An intellectually dishonest person would refuse to accept the basic facts and truth and further twist them to fit his own needs. Case to point, Mother Jones.

That's just it.
They disagree on what the facts are.
So it's not like they're accepting facts and then applying weird mental gymnastics.
They are simply so naive that they refuse to accept the facts.
One perfect example is how many liberals on this board alone deny the existence of welfare queens, medicaid abusers, etc. The FACT is that they are rampant and many of us encounter them ALL THE TIME only to be told repeatedly that we're making that up and no one would ever want to be on the dole if they had a choice because of their noble nature. Naive. Purely naive.
People lie about all kinds of things when it comes to getting a mate. When I was a kid in the 70s in long island everybody registered as a republican because you couldn't get jobs or services or contracts if you didn't. Times have changed. Racists and segregationists were in the closet thanks to the tea party and trump they are out and proud. Society will regress until there is a correction.

I'm also from Long Island and they viewed Democrats as liberals from the city which caused more people to vote R than D.
