Black women feel jilted by Obama with Supreme Court pick

Black women's groups said Wednesday they feel President Barack Obama jilted them by choosing someone other than a black woman as his newest nominee for the Supreme Court.

...
"The fact that he would once again look over black women for this specific appointment is an absolute slap in the face to his top supporters," said Avis A. Jones-DeWeever, founder of the Exceptional Leadership Institute for Women.

Minority voters have been the most devoted supporters of Obama's two presidential campaigns. Black women, in particular, had the highest turnout among all racial and ethnic groups in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, and they had hoped Obama would nominate a black woman to the high court.

On the one hand, Obama deserves this response since he along with most on the left pump up the whole diversity angle to encourage support when it's the first such-and-such minority group to achieve a certain status. However, in the whole scheme of things, Obama is not even considering this as serious. I get it.

On the other hand, I wish we could get to a point were this is not an issue. People should be promoted because they are good at what they do - not solely because of what race, sexual orientation, etc. they are. I was looking through the article for her suggested pick of the black woman to serve in the court... there are none. At least if you are going to complain about it, have someone suggested that he should consider.

Black women's groups aren't vowing to not agree to any nomination like McConnell is trying to pull. It will be funny watching him lose support of his own members with this one. It is gonna be a rough summer for Mitch.

What you thought he would serve up anyone other that a moderately conservative white guy?

If you did then you haven't been paying attention these last 7 years.

There were several Black Women that were suggested to the White House - the top 2 immediately got their names removed and said they were not interested. I'll list them in order of support and relevance.

1) Kamal Harris - Democrat Attorney General California, now running for US Senate to fill Barbara Boxer's seat - age 52
2) Loretta Lynch - US Attorney General
3) Ketanji Brown Jackson - recently appointed (2013) U.S. district court judge for the District of Columbia - age 47
4) Patricia A. Millett - Appeals Court Judge in the District of Columbia
5) Danielle Holley-Walker - Dean of Howard University Law School (2014) - age 41

The top choice here for Obama would probably be Kamala Harris - her name has been tossed around as the next Supreme Court Justice even when he appointed Kagan. She is an Ideological pick for him, but she has higher ambitions.

The more they find out about Merrick Garland, the less likely he is to get a hearing. Anti-gun and all those political donations to Obama & Clinton won't help his cause ..... and it was slight to begin with. The Biden Rule (no Supreme Court Justice in an Election Year) is already baked in. Garland is cannon fodder.

TeamObama knows this and he is likely to soon abandon Garland and make another pick ..... it's almost sure to be one of these women OR a black male. Harris & Lynch are smart enough to know that it can be a career killer to be turned down as a Justice ...... they took a pass as would any smart person who as aspirations of a higher position.

Working in the Obama Administration is Toxic to a career. It's why he can't fill so many open positions.

I am a black woman and FWIW, I knew that some black women would be butt hurt about the nominee.

But I knew he would not nominate a black woman. I was hoping he'd nominate Sri.

FWIW, many of you on here are not "into" black media or black groups such as the associated groups of black women clubs and you are not aware that they passionately work and lobby for black girls and women, so, I expected some condemnation on the nominee based on growing up with the women who lead and participate in these sorts of clubs.
