As for me, I voted No. Why? Because while I consider people who burn American flags to be a disgrace, I also certainly don't think that it is any of my business to tell them what they can and can't do with their own property.

Anyway, any thoughts on this?

Not directed to the OP, but a thought question;

If you can't burn it, how would you propose disposing of a worn flag? What's worse, some nutjob burning a flag in protest, exercising their right to free speech, or seeing a flag in the garbage/dump/buried?

maybe the OP should clarify. But pretty sure he's referring to when it's done in protest.

Protest is protected as free speech. You have no right to avoid offense.

I voted no. We have that freedom.
However, if a flag burner got his ass kicked, I'm OK with that, too.

Charges for starting a fire, endangering public safety and surely there has to be several EPA violations torn asunder and worthy of a fine or imprisonment.

Desecrating the flag should be discouraged and burners ostracized by society unless they engage in self immolation.

protesting is not protected 100% of the time. you need a permit for it and you can't protest on private property or at a private event.

I meant flag burning as a protest.

Except a perfect defense would be that I just happened to be properly disposing of my flag in front of the courthouse.

I voted No but I would like it to be a requirement that if you want to protest something and burn the American flag you first need to step through a line of veterans that have risked their lives for that flag and our country.

If the veterans allow it then go ahead and burn it but don't call the police if you get beat up.
