"No apparent reason" is YOUR opinion. And a wrong one at that.
It's pretty hard to justify holding up that many appointments on the basis that they dislike the other party, not the candidates.

Why not? Even Senators Biden and Senator Obama were against nominating during an election year.

Ever hear of "The Biden Rule".

They did not take any action, they did not hold up any appointments.

Nowhere in the Constitution says they need to justify their actions or inactions as long as they are not discriminating the candidate by race, sex, religion and sexual orientation - oh, wait, Obama did precisely that the last two times he nominated someone, never mind.

By the way, the inaction is still an action. Passive aggressive maybe but it is still an action. So essentially, they didn't hold up any appointments - it will just take a little longer. Is there a place in the constitution that says how long it must take?

Refusing to hold a hearing for a nomination is in fact an action, a negative one but still an action.

I know -- what are we going to do!?!

The Supreme Court QUICKLY RESOLVES ALL THE PRESSING ISSUES OF THE DAY --

*** the fight between states that want to enforce immigration law and the federal government that doesn't.......

*** whether requiring photo ID to vote is constitutional.......

*** automatic citizenship or the lack thereof for "anchor babies".........

*** resolving the conflict between reverse discrimination through racial preferences that favor non-whites over whites and females over males and the civil rights act that forbids all discrimination based on race and gender.........

*** the right to buy and carry guns for self-protection if you are a law-abiding citizen with no history of documented mental illness.........

*** the legality of limits on free political speech (speech codes and "free speech zones") on college campuses.........

*** the legality of Christian symbols on public property.........

*** the right to life vs. abortion on demand.........

*** whether or not we can fight wars for years without ever declaring war, etc.

Yep, these troubling issues are so quickly and efficiently resolved by the High Court -- which would never even THINK of letting them fester unresolved for decade after decade -- that we MUST NOT allow the Court to be ham-strung by 4 -4 decisions under ANY circumstances.

Yep, our wonderfully effective supreme court is what saves us from having too many lawyers, too many laws, too many backed up court dockets, and too many festering unresolved social and political issues.

Congress MUST approve a 9th justice NOW!

Maybe it's not different, but it's certainly not better.
