Many blacks have been in America for generations. They have deep roots in this country. Many latino immigrants are quite new to this country. Yet, it seems that Latinos have been able to get the media spotlight and the political influence more effectively.

In the last thirty years, they have significantly increased their population. On the media, undocumented immigrants almost get more attention than legal immigrants. This isn't an accident, but a result of careful advocacy. It seems that if you speak up, the American Sheeple will simply nod or get confused.

Blacks do a lot of advocacy, and yet their status and position haven't improved that much. They are still the most discriminated group in the country. They shout their lives matter---and i hear them---yet all that sounds a bit hopeless in tone.

What are the lessons?

To start with, a higher birth rate is important to a group's empowerment. In a market economy and democracy, headcounts count.

Striving seems to be another key factor. Latinos work very hard and do some of the most demanding jobs in this country. Without them and immigrants, California will come to a stop. Can it be said about blacks?

Be ethnocentric. When you have accumulated wealth, help your family and community.

Run an influential media presence.

Advocacy: in government, education, etc., advocate for the inclusion of the Spanish language, bilingual services, funding and grants, structural components (caucuses, committees, etc.).

what else?

What are you talking about? As an Afro-Latino myself, your post makes little sense. Hello? Our current president is black (half-white too, for the inevitable poster who won't even acknowledge that Barack is considered a black man in this country). Blacks have far more people in positions of power and influence in many aspects of American culture (politics, sports, media, etc.) than Latinos. If anything, blacks have paved the way for Latinos to attain higher heights through their struggles (and many pioneering Latinos, such as Roberto Clemente, were Latino AND of a darker hue). And this is not to take away from Latino struggles and pioneers, like Cesar Chavez, who often waged their battles concurrently.

The rest of your post is just full of gross ignorance and racism. Have a higher birth rate? Work harder (and thus implying black laziness)? Just stop.

i won't respond to everything you ranted. but i'll point out a few things.

obama might be considered a black man, but his experience is atypical and doesn't prove that black people somewhat are subject to less discrimination. one man's success says nothing about the group, and he is a mixed race too. a black person from alabama is still subject to the worst racism in this country.

and that goes right into the second point. the successful black leaders of this country don't seem to mean much to tbe betterment of the black people in general. be careful about using politicians as examples, because they often are in it for themselves rather than their constituencies. the fact that there are so many black leaders actually say something about the ineffectiveness of their advocacy, that is, if they do any.

what's wrong with a higher birth rate?

1. Who are "blacks?" Only people who are born in and have a heritage in the United States?

2. Why are you acting as though Latinos cannot be of African descent as well?

3. Why are you acting as though "blacks" cannot be immigrants?

African immigrants, specifically Nigerians, are among the highest educated immigrants. In fact, only Indians rival them. Other Africans and also Afro-Caribbean often work very hard and are highly educated. They and their children are overrepresented at the nations' elite institutions.

Your post is very limited and is not well thought out. Ultimately, it was AAs more than others whose work opened the door for recent Americans. It wasn't that long ago.

Just another hit piece by yet another (I presume) white poster trying to pit African-Americans against Latinos. SMH.

A pretty consistent line of argument these days which unsurprisingly comes mainly from quarters that don't give a damn about black folks.

People need to educate themselves and at least have a more diversified social network

Through statistical manipulation, and politics.

The concept was invented 30 years ago. Nobody was ever "hispanic" before the 80's.

That advocacy and protest does not bring about progress.

Numbers are only important when you're demanding federal funding. Thats the only reason hispanics exist as a demographic.

Sorry but we have no lessons to take from "latinos".

In one breath right-wing white males bash blacks by pitting (Northeast) Asians against blacks, and on the other hand they try to act concerned about blacks because Latinos are supposedly more racist than whites. They fear competition, ironically. That's why you never really hear them complaining about Asian women or Latina women getting with white guys but Asian and Latina women having kids with men from their own races is creating "anchor babies". When you look at your average Republican supporter, they operate on a zero-sum game mentality where they actually fear competition when the game doesn't go their way and they see ethnic males as the primary threat, and ethnic females who refuse to date white men as anchor baby breeding machines.

Yes, and that's why Pete Wilson helped make California a "blue state" for the last 20 years and counting.
