LOS ANGELES (AP) - Citing an effort to hold down costs, health insurance giant Blue Cross wants doctors in California to report conditions it could use to cancel new patients' medical coverage, it was reported Tuesday.

The state's largest for-profit health insurer is sending physicians copies of health insurance applications filled out by new patients, along with a letter advising them that the company has a right to drop members who fail to disclose "material medical history," the Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site.

Insurance companies are the only business model that I know of that benefits by denying their product/service.

Are there problems in the health care industry? Of course, NOBODY says there isn't unless you are a liberal socialist who likes to make up things as they go along. Is the answer socialized medicine? No, I wonder when the social liberals will ever get that through their head... apparently not... their answers for anything is to socialize it...

An insurance policy is a bilateral contract. The applicant complies with his end of the contract by not misrepresenting things in an application which was the document with which the contract was based. The applicant agrees to tell the truth, pay the premiums, in exchange for coverage. If you misrepresented things in an employment application, it is clearly stated in that application that it is grounds for termination or withdrawal of an offer. This is no different. It appears from the article that this is directed toward individual policies, and not group, as most states waive pre-existing conditions with proof of prior insurance.

I don't understand your question. Pregnancy should be covered as a pre-existing condition if you had insurance prior to the pregnancy and then moved over to a different insurance company.

Yes I know how to read. Did you read my response saying this is probably for individual policies where the applicant lied?

Physicians have the ethical responsibility to lie to ensurers and not betray their patients. A doctor's first duty is to his or her patient, not a company.
