Maybe it's because the Constitution is such a vaguely-written document that people bend it to their will in every direction.
I don't think that it's vague, the wording of the time becomes the issue. It's to bad they had not followed the wording of PA Constitution written in 1776 before the US Constitution. By reading this and the provisions in other state Constitutions of the time I think we can understand what was intended.
1776 version:
Quote:
That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the state; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; And that the military should be kept under strict subordination, to, and governed by, the civil power.
1790 and current:
Quote:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
Guns or any other weapon does not a criminal make. The intent to harm does. So stop trying to ban the weapons and work on understanding why, besides defending themselves from a violent assault, people want to harm others. Religious conviction, insult or defamation are not acceptable reasons for murder. Work on the people and leave the weapons alone.
Excuse me for not being a gun expert. Seems to me any normal handgun would do the job just fine (for self-defense).
Some people actually don't just own guns for self-defense. I think this statement above is the issue, non-gun owners responding emotionally or living in areas were gangs carry guns, they don't own them.

Not that it'd matter for me anyway, living in California. Here, you'd be criminally prosecuted for defending yourself with a butter knife.
Go North, far North you won't have this problem.
