Maybe it's because the Constitution is such a vaguely-written document that people bend it to their will in every direction.

I don't think that it's vague, the wording of the time becomes the issue. It's to bad they had not followed the wording of PA Constitution written in 1776 before the US Constitution. By reading this and the provisions in other state Constitutions of the time I think we can understand what was intended.

1776 version:
Quote:
That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the state; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; And that the military should be kept under strict subordination, to, and governed by, the civil power.
1790 and current:
Quote:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defence of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
No ambiguity or interpretation needed there.

But that would require actual work!

Is a single shot .22 rifle semi-automatic? I guess technically.

When you disarm our Masters, called government, then we can discuss reducing the peoples arsenal.

They exist throughout life, for the greater good.
Guns != porn, that's a rather perverted analogy to say the least.

But, I do like gun porn

I hear you there, only someone that truly likes firearms, can look at a NightHwak Custom, or a Colt Python, and go AWAH, that looks really nice.

Not that it'd matter for me anyway, living in California. Here, you'd be criminally prosecuted for defending yourself with a butter knife.
You're Exhibit A ref: my "unless you live in a commie-state" comment

Some people actually don't just own guns for self-defense. I think this statement above is the issue, non-gun owners responding emotionally or living in areas were gangs carry guns, they don't own them.
