They usually don't ask for a recertification until 6-12 months down the line unless there is an audit and they see they don't have your information on file, then they will require you to come rather immediately with proof of your situation.
Also, like the other poster told you, retirement accounts are also exempt in many areas. States set their own rules for the dishing out of SNAP benefits. What state are you in?

That's why I really don't have patience for politicians that talk about raising taxes. There's so much fat to trim already, that even addressing half the waste, abuse of the system, and inefficiency in the budget would be more than enough.
