This makes no sense whatsoever. Why would your god create human beings with a rational thinking brain and then demand that human beings reject rational thinking in favor of irrationality and fantasy, in order to be "saved?"

No, let's not.

There are not two beliefs about a supposed afterlife, there's only one; THERE IS NO AFTERLIFE! There IS NO REASON to believe anything else. The notion of an afterlife is pure fantasy and therefore can't be taken seriously by any rational thinking human being.

the best way to find out if God is real....is to ask Him. Jesus said he was real. He was kind of keen on the subject. jesus also said that "if you seek....you will find. if you knock, the door will be opened." if you personally don't believe in God...chances are you have not asked Him sincerely, wanting to know the truth, no matter what....people who call themselves christians don't make it easy for those who don't believe...to believe. it is the unfortunate condition of man to be a sinner.....for those who don't know the definition...sin is another word for not hitting the bulls eye on a dart board, or missing the mark. which Jesus proclaimed was the condition of all men. and that the truth would only be revealed to those who saw themselves as needing a fix. Jesus said he came to be the fixer of that problem and introduce anyone who wanted to know God personally to Him. one of the reasons, people who don't know God stumble in this process, is because we who do believe set a terrible example...i.e. george w. bush. the word christian means follower of Christ...you know...Jesus Christ....you can be saved and on your way to heaven when you die by accepting Jesus's offer of an introduction to his father God. to be a christian means you are not only saved, but you also follow Jesus's teaching. two seperate things. this is the unfortunate part i spoke of earlier. there are thousands possibly millions of people who believe and who don't even bother to read the bible daily. and follow what is written. If george w. bush read the bible, he sure as heck wouldn't have us mired in babalyon. babylon is spoken of in the bible from genesis to revelation, a common thread. there are two written works that have more manuscripts and are verified and validated by more scolars than any other books in history. that is the bible and homers illyid and oddesy. if you want to know the truth...you must be a seeker of the truth....the fact that God himself made a way for us sinners to communacate with Him and spend eternity with Him and still be sinners while we are here...is because He is so merciful and set the bar so low as the only thing needed to get to Him is to ask His
Son for an introduction....but even before you get to that place you can ask Him if He exist and He will answer you...you do it and then write me back in say a year.....love, 1966sonolite

Now, that's not logical at all. You categorically deny something you can't prove and then insult someone for asking the question!

My dead relatives have contacted me so I know of what I write. And I'm aware of "former" lives. Of course, the proof cannot be conveyed to someone else, but the evidence I've received is enough for me. All I can say is that three dimensions can't explain it all.

Energy cannot be destroyed, it simply changes form. So you're the one who isn't held to this scientific reality? Glad to meet you!

Christians will talk about God
Jews will talk about God
Muslims will be talking about God
Marx also was talking about God
Sartre and Simone de Pefoar they talk about God
Blacks, whites and The yellow talk about God
Let us leave God with the angels in the sky
To look for America together on the ground
Your government are not angels
Or America in the sky
America on the ground
Governed by humans
Do not ask of your ruling in the name of God
Even helped America to rule in the name of reason
and logic and justice

Poem to America
( Translated from the Arabic language )
Are you the land of milk and honey?
How Does Christ was born?
Is Christ died on the Cross in Palestine?
Or that he died in the White House?
Then sent to the sky Congress?
Christ lives in my heart
My heart is the sky
Hoisting the son of Mary
Evil speak today about God
Evil cry because God leaving him
I cry America, which renounced all
American stained glass pieces
If broken would injure my heart
Because I love coffee America
And doughnuts in the morningorning
Where every day in the original seven Eleven
Where God
Which is seen
And ask me:
Why are you black?
And the blood, such as red blood
The first time
I know that my blood red
This was one of the old man, who came from Puerto Rico
Having cut his arm in Vietnam

Every society since the beginning has tried to come up with explainations for the unexplainable...in ancient Greece it was the Greek Gods...now their beliefs seem pretty rediculous....there was a God for every situation, how does the earth float in space? Well there's this God that holds up the Earth on his shoulders....right....

I'm more likely to believe that cells and organisms were planted on this planet by more intelligent beings out there....beings that can actually be seen....
Our solar system is just one speck of what is out there.
We're an experiment. And we're failing miserably, I might add.

And I have often wondered about worshipping a "God" that would allow his children to go through such suffering (of course, I know....that's His plan)....I mean torturous suffering....a parent that treated and neglected their children in that way would be arrested.

When I grew up and started thinking for myself, I became a logical thinker...and all this God stuff is not logical.

I can't argue with anything in your post....I've had the same thoughts myself, and more....The possibility we're an "experiment"(who's to say we aren't?)---the fact that the justice of God seems so elusive and contradictory (how can a GOOD God allow 'bad" things to happen to those he loves? Why doesn't He just "outlaw" evil, and be done with it?)---and the fact that obviously, any belief in an "unknowable" God is going to require at least SOME leap of faith that may well be looked at as "flying in the face of logic"....

None of this, IMO, denies the existence of God.....but it certainly DOES raise many questions.

As has been posted a few times, it matters what one thinks the proper default hypothesis is. If one begins from the premise that there is a God and waits for the non-theist to prove otherwise, one is likely conlude that there just isn't quite enough evidence to rule out the default hypothesis. If one begins from the premise that there is not a God and waits for the theists to demonstrate to the contrary, one is likely to conclude that there isn't the slightest bit of evidence to suggest that the default hypothesis is not true.

This is one reason why many religions put an emphasis on the inclusion of little children in the flock. It is important to establish the proper default hypothesis in their minds before any of them has a chance to start doing any of the establishing themselves...

One thing that disturbs me greatly is that if indeed God exists (as I believe He does), and if he created ALL of us, can do anything He wants, and can do it WHENEVER He wants, why, out of all the billions of people on Earth, would he choose George Bush to talk to?

Why are we allowing a religious thread to seep out into PaOC?
