I'm not sure how much you can read into this. There are always going to be good and poor governors of all parties. These approval ratings likely have much more to do with state politics than any national party trends.

Mark Dayton in Minnesota just took a huge hit in the polls. He's pushing through a gas tax in a year when they are running a 2 billion dollar surplus. Said he would just raise license tabs if he didn't get his gas price hike...this for road construction.

Having only 19 governors is certainly a "trend" for the Democrats. The trend being that party sucks at governing.

I didn't say it was the only issue, what I said was it was the major one. I will reiterate it's not just the state, this is affecting all levels of government in PA. Our other major problems are that education and welfare spending have doubled over the last 2+ decades. PA teachers are now some of the highest paid in the country and they still want more, you always hear the call for more education spending. They got it and testing results have remained flatlined in that same time frame. As far as the welfare benefits they are so generous you have people moving here from other states to get them.

Spending more never seems to work, it just escalates more. The recent fuel tax increase for example, we now have one of the highest fuel taxes in the country. As it turns out a lot of that money is not going for roads where the funding is badly needed, it's going to the State Police as one example and mass transit. Meanwhile the people paying for that are driving around on potholed roads.

These problems have not occurred overnight and we are not going to fix them overnight with new taxes. They have been created over decades because they kept kicking the can down the road, the can can't kicked anymore. If you want to reduce deficits you need to look at where you are spending first, then consider tax increases.

Do you understand what I'm saying? I'm tired of hearing we need more money because it never seems to end.

I wouldn't make a wager on that if I were you. BTW his name is Tom Wolf. There are more registered Democrats in PA than Republicans. The only elected official in PA who should be very worried right now ... behind in the polls and running in November ... is Senator Pat Toomey.

The key here is Mark Dayton ran up a 2 billion dollar surplus!

BTW, Dayton's approval rating went up from 54% a year ago to 62% now.
Most liberal governor' rights ship in Minnesota
