I think the people that are complaining about this should quit their current job and find a nice, low-paying, high-stress, high-hours job and get the experience of that until December. Something like a 24/7 on-call systems administrator who makes $35,000/yr.

I have to say I support this. Many companies change job titles and make employees salaried to get free work from them. I see no reason why people shouldn't get paid for overtime in lower paying jobs.

Anyone who takes a job like that deserves the abuse because it was a very stupid move.

I fail to see how this new rule will destroy the economy, but it is entertaining to see conservatives' heads explode over this LOL.

Because people aren't smart enough to negotiate a better deal or find another job for themselves. Thank you government for running our lives.

I think a lot of people are complaining with absolutely no perspective here. It seems quite clear that the only people mad are people who won't be affected by this anyway. It just boogles my mind that anyone could be mad that regulations will now prevent a worker from being overworked without reasonably paid.

Its as if people believe that there should be no regulations at all in the work place. Like if you're willing to work for 2$ an hour, you should be able to? This law was revisited because clearly the worker in a lot of cases has not had enough leverage to negotiate for an acceptable wage for the amount of hours worked. Just because something is industry standard doesn't mean its right.

I guess if someone has never experienced something first hand, OR has employees where now they can't abuse them how they wouldn't understand. At the end of the day, places like Dollar General won't be able to force store managers to work a minimum of 54 hours (yes, they tell you that's the minimum when you start) for a 40 hour pay of 30,000. If you get mad, too freaking bad, there's little else I can say than you're a horrible heartless person.

Everyone should be getting paid buy production(piece work), or on commission. No one should be paid hourly.

That would fix everything! all the whining and if you want to make more you work harder and longer. You know... "the going rate"

They will go from salaried to hourly and work no more than 40 hours a week. Period.
And now, they can find a second job and actually get paid for their work, why are you against this ?

The next 16 hours or 8 hours on the last day is your own for the most part but you have to be there for the occasional duty. You can watch TV, sleep, run an online business/job or whatever the rest of the time...

The total time is 84 hours but your duties only add up to perhaps 30 hours. I would think many people would be interested in this especially if they are making minimum wage or a little more. For 16 hours each day you would be doing things you might be doing anyway at home and the big bonus is you get a 3 1/2 days off a week.

I can cover this with two people. If I have to pay overtime I'm going to hire more workers instead and you can come in for 8 hours 5 days a week.

I know if I was making minimum wage at McDonalds and someone offered me $25K ayear to do this I'd jump at the offer.
LOL, your solution is probably exactly what the Obama administration wants, you are now paying someone the exact same amount of money to work half the time, and you also created a job by adding a new employee.

You can not always negotiate a better deal. Some companies do not budge.

Jobs are not so plentiful as to have the ability to just quit one.
