It came out today that Judge Persky gave a much harsher sentence to a similar sexual assault case (digital penetration, except the woman was conscious and pleaded with him to stop). But this guy---even though he didn't run away and immediately expressed remorse ---is being sentenced to three years in a state prison. Difference between him and Brock Turner? This guy is Latino.

Instead of crying about how unfair Brock's sentence is, he and his family should be counting their blessings that Brock got Judge Persky and is white and upper middle class.

Need more info on the perp in the above mentioned case. We're trying to hard on this one, Brock should stand on his own. Poor immigrant. Interesting choice of words. They also go out of their way to say no violent felony convictions. Does he have other criminal cases against him?

He plead guilty to a felony.

Trying to hard.

"Turner had the two most serious charges against him, rape of an intoxicated person and rape of an unconscious person, dropped in a preliminary hearing, whereas Ramirez plead guilty to the most severe charge leveled against him"

Read the whole article and note the tone of the author. Who is the actual victim in this case? I only hear defense for the rapist, Ramirez. No condemnation of his heinous act. It's actually mentioned that he apologized...it's mentioned twice.

Why nothing about the victim of this rape?

Reaching here folks, really reaching.

Holy ****. I could have been because of 10 other factors other than race. Why is race always the first thing you race baiters look at. I know how it works. You research all other similar cases and then look for the 1 case out of 10 where the minority gets a harsher sentence, don't look into why, then automatically blame it on race. The judge even said during the sentence why he made it shorter for this guy. It had nothing to do with race.

And we have to decide if we are ok with that too.

Whites are also more likely to have access to skilled private lawyers who can argue that hefty jail terms will negatively impact their future careers, as Ramirez’s attorney Ross conceded.
“It’s really a question of lifestyle,” he told the Guardian.

The judge may well have given the same sentence if Brock's name was Ramirez and everything else was the same.

All we can know for sure is that Persky was freely admitting he did not want to severely impact Brock. Leaving race aside, it is a question of lifestyle - not wanting to impact careers? Are we ok with this? The jurors were not, but based on the above it seems like it is a just something that is part of consideration. So, make sure you have good credentials when you commit a violent crime.

Why would "we be ok with that too?" Of course not. The point is it wasn't because of racism.

This "boys will be boys" ruling is a vicious slap in the face of every sexual assault victim, especially those who have chosen to step forward and seek justice. I hope it becomes a focal point to highlight just how awful things still are. This case needs to become a catalyst for change.
When people say what is white privilege, point to this...

Someone is getting an early release.

Quote:
Former Stanford student Brock Turner is expected to be released from jail on Friday after three months in jail for sexual assault.

The 21-year-old, convicted earlier this year and sentenced to six months, is scheduled to go free on Sept. 2, according to Santa Clara County jail records.

Prosecutors had asked for six years after the former swimmer was found sexually assaulting a young woman behind a dumpster near Stanford’s campus.

The six months punishment handed down by Judge Aaron Persky drew widespread outrage, though Turner is slated to be out in half that time.

If I were a family member of the girl he raped, getting out of jail would be the absolute worst thing that ever happened to him.
