my relative thinks if trump gets in and deports all the illegals, it would be bad because prices for produce will necessarily skyrocket. this person thinks that americans wont be willing to pick veggies and fruit in the hot sun for 12 hrs a day, and I think she is right. I don't think we should put up will violent or dangerous illegals but I must say I admire anyone who busts their ass off to make a living. what do you all think about this?

Why would not these same immigrants want to pick fruit and veggies if they came here legally? Can only illegals pick fruit?

Because it's not as easy as you may think.

Why Don

What does this have to do with the illegality of illegals and the breaching of our Border the Federa Government is charged with protecting?

Nothing.

1. From your link:

Yet few people understand how grossly out-of-date the U.S. immigration system is and how unable it is to keep up with the demands of a growing and changing U.S. economy and to reflect the needs and values of our diverse nation. Lawmakers have failed for nearly 20 years to update our immigration laws or address the limited opportunities for securing legal immigration status. Today’s overly restrictive legal limits on green cards mean that virtually all undocumented immigrants have no avenues for legal entry to the United States

Suggestions that immigrants who are in the United States illegally—numbering an estimated 11 million—should simply get in line miss the point: There is no line available for them and the “regular channels” do not include them.If given a choice, opinion surveys of undocumented immigrants indicate that 98 percent would prefer to live and work legally in the United States and would do so if they could. Furthermore, a recent survey of Latino immigrants found that more than nine in 10 who have not naturalized said they would if they had the possibility.
However, most undocumented immigrants do not have the necessary family relationships to apply for legal entry, or, if they do, they face years or decades of waiting for a visa.

2. To summarize those first two paragraphs:

- our current immigration system is out of date
- our current immigration system can't keep up with demand
- lawmakers for the past 20 years have failed to update immigration laws
- most illegals don't have family here to sponsor them
- if illegals have family here they have to wait for years or decades

3. Now let's go back a couple of days to the protests after the Trump rally in San Jose:

- Trump is saying racist things
- Trump is saying things that incite these violent protests
- these protesters are engaging in free speech
- these protesters are attempting to change a corrupt system

4. Anyone see the pattern??

Those liberals (whether it is those on this site who excuse make for inexcusable behavior or those who wrote the first two paragraphs of the POS link that you posted) are sickening. Sit at your damned computer and tell me again all the reasons why the rules don't apply, why somebody else made a protester engage in violence, why illegals don't have to go through legal channels, why its somebody elses fault and somebody elses responsibility for THEIR actions.

Do you even HEAR yourself in that Utopian, excuse-making, safe space residing vacuum that you live in?

I don't recall produce prices dropping when the invasion really took off after nafta. Fear tactics of illegal sypathizers. Matter of fact, price of nothing dropped because of illegal immigration, only profits rose for employers.

Your relative needs to seek out the facts. Only 2% of illegals are picking crops and for those jobs there are unlimited visas for legal, foreign workers. Whatever profits that the growers reap from illegal labor they only pocket it for themselves while they pass the social costs of their illegal workers unto we the taxpayer. That tomato that is 25 cents right now would probably only be 20 cents without illegal pickers.

Picking crops is only seasonal work. It's not a career job for Americans and many don't live in rural areas thus the unlimited visas for those jobs. Busting one's butt does not excuse anyone for breaking the law.

We have annual quotas in place for legal immigration for good reasons. We cannot allow in every needy person in the world that wants to come here and that is why it isn't easy. We cannot be the flophouse and employment agency to the whole world as it would negatively impact our own citizen's needs and rights. This is so elementary that I am amazed that so many just don't get it.
