We get really sick. We get obese, we get cancer, we get diabetes, we get coronary heart disease...and then we get lots of pharma drugs, operations, tests, procedures....then we die.

Lot of industries are making lots of money off our pain and suffering from our diseases, our side effects, and our seeking a cure to our diseases.

Have you thought about this, too?

Of course, what we put into our mouths and how much we exercise is a personal decision, but still, food did not seem to be so very adulterated in my parents' day...and it's running a mine field at the grocery store to buy healthy choices...reading every label is very time consuming.

Not easy to stay healthy in the face of so much junk food and junk medicines.

I hate that high fructose corn syrup. I guess sometimes I probably have it without realizing when I'm not the greatest eater but I've developed an aversion to it in a way. I don't know how I ever drank this but I used to drink Minute Maid Lemonade all the time. The last time I drank it I could really taste the corn syrup. Put it in sodas fine but keep it out of damn lemonade. That's why I try to get lemonade from Wegman's now whenever I can. I want the real stuff.

I think food used to be better. I know fast food was never healthy but in recent years it's been pretty awful. With a few places that I used to love the food either seem like eating plastic (for example Little Ceasar's it tastes so cheap now) or stale. I would have more real things but I'm not a cook and don't have money to go out to a decent restaurant all the time. I did switch to sea salt at home. I wish I had discovered it years ago. It tastes so much better than regular salt. I also drink goat's milk instead of cow whenever I can.

While conservatives oppose sex and nudity in commercials, I find many pharma related commercials more disgusting. So gross. Not only medications, but hospitals, pushy lawyers, etc.
Some are trying to scare the audience, showing suffering sick people.
Apparently, the entire advertising world shifted direction.
Me too, sex and nudity is just a harmless personal choice for the most part (if you practice safe sex there's no problem) but drugs are sickening.

I know sometimes they are needed but I find it so funny when I'm told by people that I should follow doctors advice and take drugs. Are you really that naive? Just look at the laundry list of side effects they will say in the ad and all the ads about people suing them.
If you want to take drugs that's on you but I'm not doing it.
Taking NSAIDs all the time for my headaches growing up I'm sure had a hand in my gastritis. I know a lot of it was stress but that didn't help. Antibiotics don't help much either.

I believe the US and New Zealand are the only two countries that allow drug manufacturers to advertise.

Canada - no prescription ads. TV would be unwatchable if it were otherwise, I don't know how you yankees manage to not die from laughter after seeing a barrage of those back to back.

I'm waiting for a commercial like that with two bathtubs and two 55 year old dudes instead. Getting ready for the "medicine" to work so they can take turns giving each other a good rogering, just like old times. Since that is trendy and enlightened nowadays.

They should also advertise it to otherwise healthy 35 year olds who see 20 year old "escorts," who want to be able to bust twice during their hour long session. Sizable market for that, and since these companies are essentially pushers they should reach out to capture the market.

Yeah it sounds crazy, but when you are raised by the TV before you can walk, it is completely normal to us. We sit there are go through drug ad after ad without thinking much. And when we go to our doctors, they are always pushing drugs onto us, never trying to PREVENT the problem.

It is like we are completely dumbed down, so dumb that even our so called "doctors" don't question the whole system. But then again it could be money. Doctors in the USA who sell lots of prescriptions get invited to be a "guest speaker" at the drug company and get paid $100,000 or more!

Americans, don't trust your doctor. Always question, question, question and at least consider alternatives.

It's not just TV. The internet is in fact even worse (and more cagey to be honest) with these disgusting ads pushing experimental drugs down our throats. A lot of posters hit the nails on the heads. I feel bad for doctors having to deal with the barrage of people coming into their practices asking for drugs they saw on TV that might help their "condition".. A condition they've already materialized in their heads well before they actually even SEE a doctor. Seriously though, any ad you see for a drug is going to be EXPENSIVE. There's not going to be a generic available (perhaps an older version, but it will be frowned upon) and your insurance company is going to diggle you up the butt with the costs of it. It's sickening.

I almost fell for the toenail fungus one once. The cartoon in the commercial made me LOL. But then you see the cost of it, and the possible side effects and you ask yourself why you just don't wash your feet better!? Why bother when someone has a pill for it! Who can be asked to take care of themselves proactively!?
