whether they be drugged out psychopaths, or just your run of the mill jihadi - they're willing to die for their cause. How do you fight this mentality?
Someone earlier suggested we adopt destroying their families' home like Israel does. I don't think that would make a difference. Especially if they're estranged from their families.

Except for one thing about terrorists overseas: Home field advantage. There are those suggesting a carpet bombing, this is what needs to be learned. Carpet bombing took place in Vietnam. It didn't work. And Vietnam is a very small country in terms of land area. We couldn't stop the Viet Cong. How do we stop the terrorists who don't answer to a government? How is carpet bombing going to work now when these terrorists can find places to hide?

Not sure which is worse, the suggestion to carpet bomb or the effort to consider the suggestion seriously...

You can't. But, you can eliminate them and then you eliminate their friends and family, and then you eliminate their pet goats. They cease to become a problem.
since they cannot be reasoned with, and you can't ignore it either - how do we balance our role in the middle east (and obligations we have to our allies - and NOT just Israel, we have other allies in the ME) while not constantly sticking our nose in it?
