I tend to agree, if it wasn't so serious it would be comical. Another moment of silence followed by total inaction.

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Democratic Congressman Jim Himes protested in favor of stiffer gun control laws by walking out of the House chamber Monday during a moment of silence for the victims of the Orlando gay night club shooting.
Himes had said earlier in the day he was done with moments of silence on the House floor typically held after tragedies like the one in Orlando. He says silence doesn't honor the victims, it mocks them and calls the observances an abomination.

It's a rural vs. urban issue that has become politicized because of demographics.

As such, the rural state senators will crush any new laws.

If you believe someone is going to make major changes to the laws then you're just really gullible....just like the people that thought voting for Bush would really impact abortion laws.

In fairness, the rural gun owners have a valid beef. Their murder rates are comparable to Canadian rates and the Urban areas rather than addressing their own issues, crap schools, racist policing, racist housing etc. just scapegoat guns because it's a cheap political ploy that has historically worked.

I have a feeling as this unfold we'll find out that the guy probably should have been arrested or otherwise curtailed before this event by law enforcement. Maybe it will turn out like the Britain child molesting ring and we'll find out that they eased off the guy do to directives from higher up over concerns about "hassling muslims" and being insensitive.

Wow. That would be quite a bombshell now wouldn't it?

But what exactly does a moment of silence do?

The answer is nothing.

I get why you see it as disrespectful, but from his view, he sees a moment of silence as disrespectful since that's probably as productive as it's going to get.

damn the guns right?.. the issue goes way deeper and dc has their collective heads up their asses. when they start an honest discussion let me know. Slamming doors, throwing hissy fits.. all for show. Guy probably had tee time to make. Meanwhile we've had issues that havent been dealt with for decades such as American deaths at the hands of immigrants daily so modern day slavery can continue.

Comparing France to the US, even with the influx of immigrants I would take my chances in France.
