Since 2014 a small number of non-citizens who came to the United States as children and grew up in the U.S. without legal status have been granted deportation deferrals and are eligible to enlist in the U.S. military, with the goal of becoming naturalized U.S. citizens

This thread's about illegal aliens, NOT legal aliens.

It makes no sense to me that, at the same time the Army is downsizing and issuing pink slips to American soldiers serving in Afghanistan, there are Congressmen who seek to help illegal aliens deprive American citizens and lawful immigrants of military service opportunities.

It DOES matter. Allowing illegals to fight is a slap in the face to citizens who serve and others who legally (other than by manipulation...as mentioned upthread for example...by Obama) serve.

If they admit to being illegal, shouldn't they be deported?

I think you are confused.

House rejects effort to ban illegal immigrants from military service | TheHill

The issue is NOT can immigrants join, as you go on and on about, it IS can ILLEGALS join.

If you don't know the difference, heaven help us!
