So glad they've decided to invest that money into industries that create something that they can sell to other people, which would then, in turn, further grow and expand new industries that would bring in more tax money and employ the very people they are taxing. Oh...oh wait.

Do realize that healthcare is the single largest expense in the US, and it's going to rise more and more because obesity is going UP, not down

You're deluded if you think this has anything to do with seniors' Medicare which is funded differently. Good try, though.

Again, this tax will also be levied on sugar-free pop, so there goes the "sugar" argument. Also, the fact is that these items are harmless in moderation. So stay out of people's business and refrigerators.

The $90 million in confiscated private wealth will help fund govt run failures like pre K, community skools and wreck centers..of course that's $90 million minus the inherent graft, corruption, malfeasance , incompetence, waste, etc that are all hallmarks of govt programs.

Oh and people will still drink soda, they'll just have to kick extra to ceasar

The Tax will start low. 1 cent.. then 2 ... then before you know it..its gonna be 10 cents .. They'll have holes in their budget and just keep raising it. I love how they are funding pre k stuff, but doesn't property taxes do that already?

Not really, nanny state would be banning sugary drinks, a tax on it is no different than the tax on cigarettes and alcohol.

They're just creating more institutions that cause tax increases instead of businesses that increase tax revenues through business practices. It's an excuse to grow more government. Such is the modern economic way. Industry be damned.

no. When you lose 600k and 400k jobs over 60 years, you tend to run into a big budget problem. The economy is getting stronger, but the same ghetto people living in poverty keep making the same mistakes generation after generation keeping them in poverty.

Sure and in a few years as is always the case, they'll come looking to raise the tax or tax other items when all those newly created programs are bust.

Except there's data out there that says aspartame (the favorite artificial sweetener of the food industry) contributes to carb cravings, and plays a role in promoting insulin resistance. Quick Google search is all you need
