The two dead at the Annex were not direct CIA or government employees. They were contractors employed by an outfit providing security to the CIA.
Ambassador Stevens was solely responsible for his presence and that of the State Dept Communication Tech at the Consulate. He was the single most knowledgeable individual in the State Dept on the issue of the security in Benghazi. He had strong spook ties.
The attack was in two very different phases and times. The consulate attack was a mob scene. The Ambassador actually died from smoke inhalation. The second attack at the Annex was a mortar attack...no mob or such.
The liklihood is that the Video story was an attempt to cover the CIA presence. Note that what the CIA was doing there has still not been disclosed. The government often lies on matters of national security. See Eisenhowers denial of the U2 flight.
In fact, the accusation from Republicans in Congress is that Obama didn't keep abreast of events in Benghazi after he had given the order to Defense Secretary Panetta and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dempsey.
So which is it, Obama was micro managing DOD or Obama was oblivious to what was going on?
Benghazi by the numbers (this is public information):
- will be one of the longest Congressional investigations in U.S. history
- the Benghazi Select Committee has held 4 public hearings and unknown classified/private
- 10 Congressional Committees have participated in the investigation.
- 253 witnesses have testified (so far)
- 11 official reporst have been published (so far)
- 62 hours of publicly accessible debate (as opposed to classified)
- 3,194 questions asked in public hearings
- 33 hearings held in Congessional investigations
- 784 pages of published reports
- 8 out of 136 questions asked of Clinton in a letter from the Select Benghazi Committee were about Benghazi
- $3.59 million is the salary for the Select Benghazi Committee
- 46 professional staff members have worked on the Committee
- 103 witnesses interviewed by the Select Benghazi Committee
- costs of the Benghazi investigation now unknown. This time last year was calculated to be over $20 million
- over 100,000 pages of documents have been provided to the Committee by the State Department
I'm just curious at what point does this end? If there was something to be found, surely it would have been found by the above?
Since the Benghazi investigations were always nothing more than partisan witchhunts, they will end if Hillary loses the election. If Hillary becomes President and the GOP still controls Congress, they will last at least 4 more years.
...Like Sherlock Holmes said, when you have all the evidence and it does not fit what you're left with is the truth whether it makes sense or not.
You are no Sherlock Holmes, that much is certain.
