I agree with you 100%

And its exactly the mentality above that the GOP should blame for its demise.

The Koch brothers truly bemoan having to rely on "low quality" Republicans to maneuver the GOP. They hated having to appeal to the lowest common denominator and assumed that the low brow Tea Party/Sarah Palin type crowd would by appeased by carrying racist signs, making racist cartoons and driving around in their pickup trucks with gun racks and Nobama bumper stickers.

The Koch Brothers Complain About Buying Low Quality Republicans Who Lack Substance
The results are NOT the same!

I don't know about you; calipoppy, but people burning their own towns DESERVE anything bad that happens to them; I'm talking about the losers who actually are doing the deed, NOT people just watching who are probably shaking their heads on disgust.

Spot on. I had to laugh when George Will said yesterday that "this is not his GOP." Yes, George, this is exactly the party you helped to create when you didn't definitively and unequivocally shoot down the birthers and the Tea Partiers and the Christian fundamentalists with all of their hateful, xenophobic, racist rhetoric. As long as it was perceived as a net positive for the party Republicans were willing to look the other way. And because they did nothing, the xenophobes have now successfully taken over the party. And they worship a big, orange monstrosity that grew directly out of their inaction.

The GOP created the monster that is Donald Trump. They own him. And they can have him. No one else wants him.

Well, not really.

The joke is on those voting for him because they think:

he will ban muslims from entering the country,

he will deport 11 million illegal aliens,

he is a church-going man who adheres to any religious principles at all,

he will improve the economy by forcing Apple, among other companies, to return manufacturing jobs to the US,

that they have a clue (or that he has a clue) what he will do regarding foreign policy,

that he knows anything at all about the three branches of government or the constitution or the law,

that he is a republican and not a RINO.

Regardless of who burns down their own town, there are MANY people who are innocent bystanders who suffer fully as well.
And then of course there are also the ones who didn't burn down the town BUT whom purchased large vats of gasoline, handed out free matches and scurry back to their houses on the hill to watch the mayhem because they, erroneously think that they live far enough from the flames to avoid burning their own houses down.

The op's premise is completely flawed, and just a regurgitation of what used to be a fallback narrative. The typical lineup comes out to pat each other on the back, while showing how low information rationalization truly works.

Trump is to the RNC what Bernie is to the DNC; they are both riding a wave of discontent for the establishment. We saw it happen in BREXIT, and now (hopefully) we'll follow suit here. It has nothing to do with the TEA people, who BTW aren't racists... but then anyone who doesn't lockstep with progressives are all racists. As for the birther thing, let's not forget that it was actually the Hillary camp which started floating that one back in 2008.

If Trump is GOP PUNISHMENT for not stopping the Birther & Tea Party Movements then a Hillary win will be karma for all Americans for their stupidity in voting in another 4 years of Obama. Either way the USA is toast, it just depends on whats side of the isle you want to get burned from

Denials don't change facts.

The GOP establishment used the Tea Party as their attack dogs and as disposable foot soldiers. The GOP elite (Koch brothers et al) thought that they could feed those mangy attack dogs but keep them chained in the yard to do their bidding at will. Well those rabid, mangy attack dogs have broken lose and have joined up with a flea-ridden, frothing at the mouth stray dog known as Donald Trump. So the GOP has permanently lost control over their own creation. These rabid dogs are running amok p^ssing on and biting at any and everything in their path. These dogs will destroy the neighborhood and the GOP OWNS these rabid dogs.

And threads keep popping up if the republic is past the point of reconciliation... Just look at the language utilized.

Both sides, burn it. When a forest grows to wild, a purging fire is inevitable and natural.

Agreed.

Everyone keeps focusing on the great white hope, but the elephant in the room is the huge percentage of Americans who have no problem with voting for a bigot and reprehensible human being.

I was heartened to hear that George Will just left the Party, it's amazing how few Republicans seem to have any sense of honor or principles. It's not rocket science, our demographics shift has been long in coming, they had plenty of time to get with the program and evolve their policies to attract anyone besides angry white guys.

But instead of doing the right thing, they started their disgusting national effort to keep people of color from the polls. Thankfully, given how our population will only continue to diversify, I believe this will be their last hurrah, their last chance to install a blatant racist in the White House.

It's just sad, the Dems don't have all the answers, I hope moderate conservatives will return and play a part in our governance at some point in the future...
