Attorneys for Cinemark want victims of a 2012 shooting at a Colorado movie theater to pay nearly $700,000 in legal fees after they unsuccessfully sued the theater chain.

The company's lawyers told a judge they need the money to cover the costs of preserving evidence, retrieving and copying records, travel and other expenses, according to court documents filed this month.

A judge didn't immediately rule on the request. But Colorado courts allow the winning side of a court case to recover legal fees.

Were the victims being greedy?

I don't think they are responsible at all. I bet some idiot attorney thought he could get a class action lawsuit against the theater and milk them. They lost. Now they can pay for the legal fees. Thats a steep price though.

Absolutely. Tragic that those families had to loose loved ones but it doesn't mean a pay day. Money doesn't recover loss of life. Maybe people will start figuring that out.

I feel bad for the families... Maybe the law firm should be slapped with the price tag. Would definitely cause a ripple in payday class actions.

Were the families greedy for going after someone that had zero responsibility for the shooting to get money? Yes.

Should they have to pay these legal fees? Yes.

People, please stay on topic. This is not about a gun free zone. It's about the families being sued.

The individual who posted the gun free zone was indicating that is 'just cause' for the law suit. The rebuttals were the law suit is still not valid, in many opinions. However, the topic is relevant to the case as that was the justification cited.

Should Cinemark be liable in Aurora theater shooting (2 letters)
