I'd have to lean towards this being planned more so than not. You can plan for an engagement without knowing the exact place of the engagement. The basic rules of engagement will apply in any location.
Well, obviously it was intentional. So inasmuch as that is the case, it must have been planned; these guys didn't position themselves into elevated locations overlooking the protest scene by accident. They obviously planned to go to those locations and take out as many cops as possible.
My point is that it wasn't necessarily something that was planned days in advance in the form of some sort of grand conspiracy. Lots of people are good with firearms these days; you get two buddies who know the area where the protests are taking place and they could plausibly do all the planning necessary to carry out the attack in an hour or maybe less.
Okay so it's a Black Lives Matter protest/demonstration thing, and apparently the snipers and cop killers were black. Well that's sure going to make a mess!! Massacring cops is not going to endear them to your cause!
Granted there's a lot of uncertainty at this point. We might find out in the next week that the shooters were Pakistanis or Chinese or something like that. But all indications currently are that the perps are/were black.
Looks like the blacks are trying to start a war.
I'll be standing by with my guns out here in AZ, just in case they try anything in my neck of the woods.
What kills me is that you have a women on CNN so concerned about "letting the facts come out first" & not connecting the protestors with these shooters. Yet so many people like her are always jumping to conclusions when a cop kills somebody.
I highly doubt this has anything to do with the protesters but why is it so important to let all the facts come out for this and not a cop shooting?
Man, if anything, this is only going to militarize the police even more and lead to more escalation of tension and violence. It's like a feedback loop.

If this kind of thing is going to become more common, I can't say that I blame them. However, I think politics may slow that process down a bit.
Suspect they are negotiating with is exchanging gunfire and being uncooperative. I can't think for a second they are actually negotiating at all.
We have no idea what race the shooter/snipers are.
Yes I already said that. Still, here's the picture of one suspect.
Granted, fog of war right now. I remember that the OKC bombing was initially reported as somebody of Middle Eastern origin. Obviously, the press got it wrong there. Might be wrong this time.
Still, if the shooters are all black, this kinda blows the hell outa the BLM movement. Yes, black lives do matter but now you've seriously pissed off every cop in the country and you can bet that black lives will matter less to them in the near future. Like I said, this creates a huge mess!! Hopefully this turns out to be another case of misreporting, whatever their ethnicity this won't end well.
That video would tend to indicate the shooter was an amateur with no training. He didn't use cover effectively and left himself exposed for a lot longer than necessary. Also seemed to fire a lot of rounds into someone that was no longer a threat.
