Perhaps require that ordinary officers must have the first two rounds in their gun as non-lethal rounds. Being as the army fires warning shots in much more dangerous conditions, I don't see why the police can't do the same.

Cops are afraid right now and that is bad since they will be more prone to pulling that trigger faster.
They want to go home at the end of their shift and don't want some whacked out loser trying to make a name for himself to taunt them.

Police are not the enemy but in the black hoods they are, WHY because if you are breaking the law they come down on you.

Smarten up folks and chances are you will not get shot.
Reminds me how LE gets a domestic abuse call, when they roll up the guy is hitting the chick. When LE tries to arrest the dude the chicks starts wailing on the cops.

Having said that, it's not a problem that exists solely on the side of the people or the cops. So, I would suggest this -

All cops should be required to undergo psychological testing both prior to being hired, and annually following their hiring. Done by an outside agency with clear defined actions that need to be taken given certain indicators of undue stress, depression, racism, etc.

Well... we are...and you can be referred to a psych FOR CAUSE.... not in some time basis..what you suggest would violate many laws... you cannot routinely submit employees to medical exams unless you have cause to do so...

Standards for cops should be raised and cops working in large cities with higher crime rates should be paid more than their counterparts in calm suburbs that have more taxpayer money and larger budgets.

Most large departments pay similarly across the US

Cops should be trained on an ongoing basis about how to deal with certain situations and personalities so that they use a gun as a last resort.

Much has been made of this and buzz words like de-escalation training....what the public fails to realize is that descalating situations is the cornerstone of police work. A CITIZEN MAKES THE DECISION ON WHAT HAPPENS.

Cops should be immediately fired if suddenly their camera doesn't work during an encounter where an incident took place.

I'd like to see you get into a knock down drag out fight and not have your equipment ripped off. In my career I've had name tags..my badge..equipment torn off during violent fights...bad guys sometime don't want to jump in the back of the radiocar voluntarily.

Good cops should denounce bad cops and work to get rid of them.

That why we have aggressive internal invedtigstion divisions who investigate other police

Cops who have used excessive force, who have killed innocent people when their lives weren't threatened, should lose their jobs and be tried in a court of law.

OK...this happens all too often and being prosecuted is a possibility in any use of force csse today

Cops should have more protective gear.

Until we have stars wars phaser that work perfectly... yes..we need more protective gear ... but there is no gear that protects in all cases..

No quotas in departments should be set for numbers of arrests or stops or anything else.

Quotas are against the law in California and SHALL not be used a a measure of productivity...we are encouraged to write as many cites as are necessary and justified..no more no less

No targeting of certain ethnic groups should be done.

This is against any policy of any department today in any department in the US..look at any policy and procedures manual in the US. Profiling is also against policy ... profiling is however highly effective and this dhoild be rewritten the

In areas of a higher crime rate, the community should be educated about why more frequent stops are being made of the citizens who are there. That sounds simple, but people don't seem to be connecting the dots. This is not a racial issue, by the way, it's the same complaint in small poorer towns where 100% of the population is white and the crime rate is higher than the norm.

That's what part of the cops programs are all about

Parents of all races should counsel their children to be extra respectful when dealing with anyone who has a gun.

Sounds great..how do those parents stop their child from carrying a gun...if there are two parents..or parents at all. We are taught that respect is earned for our badge and not expected

Parents of all races should tell their children to explain to a cop where your drivers license is and ask permission to retrieve it...and do so slowly once permission has been granted.

Ok
Parents should not argue with cops in front of their children.

Or themselves...and they should actually be role models

People who argue with cops should know they are escalating the situation simply by being argumentative.

Ok... but we are used to argurmrnts

Parents and other citizens should denounce emotionally charged rhetoric that leads to violence against police officers.

Hmmm...perhaps...slippery slope and would need to be strictly codified..which it already is

Parents should teach their children that most cops are well-intentioned, rather than teaching them they're all against them and it's okay to be disrespectful toward them.

True...but there is a lack of respect for self..so that work would be immense..

Death penalty for anyone found guilty of killing a cop.

Ok..if it was actually applied

That won't prevent this 100% of the time, but odds are numbers will vastly improve.

Maybe... thsnks

I think ALL policemen in the USA should go on strike for a month and see how that works.

Do you even know what the police do? It's not just patrolling and pulling people over.

No it's mostly generating revenue for local governments.

I would never advocate for this but I do sense that drones will now be coming to a community near you. Drones will be doing the monitoring and dispatching for officers to respond to crime.

Yeah, right. If one of your loved ones was kidnapped, raped or killed....what would you do without the police. How would you organize an investigation and what would you look for. Would we still have an amber alert without the police.
