City won't remove Black Lives Matter banner despite police pleas | Local News - Home

“The Somerville Police Employees Association and its members are deeply troubled that the city continues to display the Black Lives Matter banner above the main entrance of City Hall. It is inconceivable to us as it is demoralizing that our city would propagate its support for this movement while standing silent over the seemingly daily protest assassinations of innocent police officers around the country,” Somerville Police Union President Michael McGrath said in a July 19 letter to Curtatone.

But Curtatone said his support for police officers cannot preempt his commitment to addressing systemic racism locally and nationally.

Someone should take them to court. City Hall is not the place to display social/political banners, and I doubt that is even legal.

is the city dominated by blacks? If so, that is why, he wants their votes, isn't that pathetic, what our leaders have resorted to?

In Philly, the mayor put down police officers for the shootings, but, Philly is predominately black, and every single day, they are shooting each other up, but he does nothing, nothing about that?

It is pathetic...you even have blacks pleading with blacks to stop this none sense, however, criminal actions win out any more....

Do you know Hillary, is coming to Philly and she has invited the families of the men that were shot by police there to speak. why? Because she wants their votes....
Pathetic!!!! Using grief for gain....and they will stand there stating what good boys they were, but they had a criminal record?

I get that there is freedom of speech but when your police force says the message demoralizes them. I could see in the early days of BLM, but now it's even more clear that BLM is anti police
Now BLM founders are talking about defunding police departments . At this point I think BLM has lost credibility

Like the Confederate flag, the BLM banner also needs to go.

BLM is a racist violent hate group, and does not represent all Americans.

I do not support either of the flags/banners.

The only reason BLM feels empowered, IMO, is because Baracko made them feel that way. Being invited for tea at the White House will do that.

They have to be pretty stupid to think that defunding the police is going to do anything good. If they think crime in the poor areas is bad now, just wait until there are no cops. If they want a war zone, they're going to have one.

There is absolutely no reasonable logic in most of what BLM talks about.

Not sure demographics of the city .
The thing that makes Hillary's support of BLM even more of a bad move is that BLM has consistently shown no respect for her
Examples
Black Lives Matter Activists Interrupt Hillary Clinton At Private Event In South Carolina

Or her husband Bill
Bill Clinton Gets Into Heated Exchange With Black Lives Matter Protester : NPR

Bill spoke the truth when he said:

""I don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and sent them out onto the street to murder other African-American children," Clinton said, addressing a protester who appeared to interrupt him repeatedly. "Maybe you thought they were good citizens .... You are defending the people who kill the lives you say matter. Tell the truth. You are defending the people who cause young people to go out and take guns."

Of course unfortunately political correctness reared its ugly head and Bill had to apologize for speaking the truth ...

I like that BLM founders and supporters are speaking their minds , because then we can see how twisted their minds are and now we can pull up the words in seconds doing a google or Twitter search

Defunding police departments ? I mean how many people that feel sympathetic could get behind that idea ?

It's inappropriate for them to display commentary like this.
