I will suggest, however, that behind closed doors elected Republicans and Democrat officials are more agreeable to each other than the "fighting mad" show they put on in public.

The game of politics in America has become some kind of "war" and it's either win or lose, compromise or truce seems weak or a capitulation.

It became "hyper-partisan" in 1800 (arguably 1796). If you think today is any worse than it's ever been you need to look at what Jefferson's supporters said about John Addams and what his supporters said about Jefferson. Or the accusations leveled against John Quincy Addams about him being a "procurer". Or what was said about Lincoln, or Cleveland or either of the Roosevelts.

As Finley Peter Dunne had one of his fictional characters say, "Politics ain't beanbag". It's a blood sport and always has been.

Show me a genteel candidate and 95% of the time he'll be delivering a concession speech. A lesson I learned the hard way.

didn't we all learn how to compromise in kindergarten?
This would make too much sense. I've always looked at the Second Amendment issue as the Democrat's own "culture war" issue. Most Americans support the right to bear arms, just like most support LGBT rights, but you have a vocal minority with clout behind it that wants to control people.

If I insult you over and over, no matter how right you think I may be, are you ever going to concede I am right on any point I may make?

It healed for about 310 million of the nation's 320 million.

That States are simply perpetual prisoners of war to an Omnipotent Federal Occupying Regime is hardly a healing process. Being a slave/servant/subject to the Holy GODvernment does not heal anything. Although the shackles do start to feel normal after many generations of imprisonment.

What good would it do? If you merge Dumb (R) and Dumber (D) all you get it dumber yet, if that's possible! Both parties need to go away and we need a Logic and Common Sense Party.

No... we need NO party. I'm for less government but would definitely be for an amendment banning political parties.

Yes, I agree that extreme atheism could be considered a religion.
