The majority of Illegals are from Mexico, followed by illegals south of Mexico.
VISA over stays are a problem because we refuse to enforce the law.
A wall isn't the answer. Laws with teeth that punish employers for hiring illegals is part of the answer. Laws that require landlords to verify legal status is part of the answer. Stiff penalties for violators is part of the answer.
First we need an E-verify system that will be reliable and effective. Far cheaper than building a wall. Make life impossible and illegals will self -deport

What are your thoughts?

There would always be legal ports of entry so what's the problem? If our relationship with Mexico is determined by how many of their poor, tax sucking, job sucking citizens and drugs we turn a blind eye on entering our country then we don't need Mexico as a partner. It's one sided. What's in it for us?

You forgot that it's not just job and benefit seekers that are sneaking through our southern border. Right along with them criminals and terrorists are getting in also, thus the wall.

Mexico exports its poor people and its drugs, and its politicians are as crooked as ours. Meanwhile they have their own strict border laws. We should invade Mexico and keep it. Then we'll have a much smaller border to defend in the SW.

Nope! Only 40% are visa over stayers the other 60% never came legally in the first place. Get your facts straight. The 700 mile wall already approved by congress would be a deterrant so it's not just feel good legislation.

Neither one of your links talks about the percentage of individuals who are legal or illegal and what way they come cross the border.

DId you simply do a search and post the first links you could find without reading them ????????

Mexico is a third world country and doesn't have the security in place to ensure people who want to do harm cannot get to Mexico and then on to US.

An open border between any First World and a Third World country is always going to be a problem. A wall is needed, it's long overdue.
THe point of the wall is to keep illegals out. The wall will not do that. There for the wall is useless from your argument's stand point.

It won't keep 100% out but shouldn't our goal be to keep out as many as we can? Did you read the links I posted?

I already posted a response to your links.

As for your argument, yes, it should be to keep as many out as possible. Jeff Sessions was actually right on this issue as he has been talking about VISA reform. Reducing the number of people getting them, how long they last and better tracking of those who have them(more reporting).

Trump arguing to build a wall is emotional, not strategic.

exactly, its a great idea designed to cut down on drugs and crime and people breaking the law entering a country illegally, what's not to like about that? if you don't want or like the wall, you're not putting america first, you're putting something else first.
