With all the changes that have happened pretty swiftly in the past 10 days which includes negative rhetoric against the US, Are people starting to see the similarities to the path taken by the 1979 Iran?

A secular muslim majority country is like a dog walking on hind legs only. It is unnatural and painful, and it can only do it so long.

Turkey is now joining the league of other 50+ Muslim countries that enforce Islamic apartheid against Women, LGBT and Minorities.

I'd have to see more. It's a little early.

I've been an advocate for getting out of NATO and Europe for years anyway. Leaving Turkey would leave me tickled pink.

I don't think Turkey and the Turkish people will follow the same path of Iran

I see more of a para-islamo-CentralAsian style regime at worst

How does a country survive after firing 21,000 teachers, they won't even be able to run the universities but maybe that's the point, keep the people uneducated.

Firing and imprisoning thousands of military, judges, public servants and police, this is very bad timing, how do they even function as a country. The only good news is that they are still a democracy and don't have a powerful cleric.

Quote:
Turkey’s post-coup crackdown took a sinister turn on Tuesday after tens of thousands of teachers were fired and all the country’s university deans were told they faced suspension.
The licences of 21,000 staff working in private schools were revoked, more than 15,000 employees at the education ministry were sacked, and the state-run higher education council demanded the resignation of 1,577 university deans.
The purge is part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s heavy-handed attempt to root out supporters of Fethullah Gülen, the US-based cleric accused of orchestrating the failed revolt.
