Obviously, as it seems cops always get their charges dropped while civilians always get convicted.
That's how the justice system works in our great nation.
“Only about 20 percent of the officers arrested are ever convicted of murder or manslaughter,” Stinson explained. “Juries and judges seem reluctant to second-guess the split-second life or death decisions of police officers in violent street encounters in the course of their job ... and will give the benefit of every doubt to an officer on trial in these cases. That is not so for other types of crimes by police officers, but it certainly is the case in these shooting cases.”
One reason for the lack of prosecution and subsequent conviction begins with the Supreme Court’s legal standard for use of lethal force. According to Graham v. Connor, the landmark 1989 case that established the standard, each “use of force must be judged from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene, rather than with the 20/20 vision of hindsight.” The ruling specifically cautions against judging police too harshly for split-second decisions made in “tense, uncertain and rapidly evolving” situations. All of this gives officers plenty of leeway to explain why their actions were legal.
Now, you can certainly argue that 20% is lower than it should be, I may or may not agree with you. However, when 1 in 5 officers arrested get convicted, that's hardly equivalent to "always get their charges dropped".
She screamed and yelled. She is not impartial at all. She embarrassed herself and the city that employs her!
What is it that you and so many others don't understand about Mosby. She can't embarrass herself or the city by charging cops with a crime. The worst that can happen for her is what happened --- a press conference blaming 'the system,' which is right in line with her backers. She & the Mayor are rising stars in the D party. These ridiculous charges were a big win for her.
They shouldn't have been charged with murder in the first place. Mosby's first mistake in this whole cluster was trumping up the charges against them. She *may* have had better success shooting for manslaughter, but she indignantly (and foolishly) pushed for murder instead. Nothing the involved officers did could be proven as murder. Not even close. She fubared the case from day one.
Now disbar Ms. Mosby and get her where she belongs... handing out parking tickets.
She's either a political hack who grandstands and damages the community for her own gain, or she's a complete incompetent who couldn't get a conviction of those she was sure were guilty.
Forced diversity on display in Baltimore for the world to see. I'm sure she forced her way into college and got it for free as well. This is where we are going as a nation unless we do something drastic to change the course.
The judge is stupid.
He denied prosecution based on the fact that officers couldn't be convicted just for not using seat belts.
He said seat belt violation is not criminal.
He is stupid.
There was another case where a boyfriend had seatbelt and girlfriend didn't.
He drove the car into a wall and girlfriend died.
He was convicted of murder, not seat belt violation.
That stupid judge didn't think why it was not used.
It was to kill someone but dumb old judge dropped charges because it's the cops, not civilian.
That's how our system is always in favor of cops, whether bad or good.
The pigs very well knew putting him in the van all tied up but without seat belt will injure him, especially when they jam on the brakes and turn corners on purpose. These are the very pigs that kill other good cops by public anger.
I wish very bad luck to these criminal cops who are now smiling behind the uniform. "See we killed that black guy and nothing happened. We can do it again and nothing will happen."
I am not a big fan of the police and there are cases where they killed people unjustifiably, but not this case. Freddy Gray was a scumbag criminal, so it is hard to feel any sympathy for him. We could also say had he behaved properly in life and been a stellar citizen, he would have never ended up in the back of that police van. You see, his life style is what led to his demise, the police just hurried things along a bit.
The prosecutor is over her head. This is what you get when you put in the prosecutors office a black panther.
