If you worked for me I'd fire you for refusing to serve anyone that wasn't posing an immediate risk to your well-being or acting like a true asswh***. Cops, minorities, gay, Muslim, etc- as long as you have payment I think the employee should serve you.

Firing the two employees was a smart business decision. Cops have a lot of support in Alexandria and people would have boycotted the store if the cook & cashier had not been fired.
