The US Navy is set to name a ship after gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk, according to a report by the US Naval Institute News.
The tanker, which is yet to be built, will be called the USNS Harvey Milk, USNI News said.
It cited a notification signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus.

Awesome news in my opinion. This is a man who was killed while serving his city; killed because he was gay.

4000 men leave port

2000 couples return.

The U.S.S. Harvey Milk, huh? Well, that sure will add a whole new meaning to "shots across the bow".

I'm not joking, the article says that the news delighted San Francisco politician Scott Wiener. Read it if you don't believe me.

The jokes write themselves when a SF pol is named Wiener. I'm a bit disappointed that the story did not include a quote from Wiener's partner, Dr. Richard Stiff.

I also heard a rumor that President Becky Obama is insisting that this ship be "eco-friendly". As such, it will not feature any live ammunition, but will depend on a milk cannon that will be used to shoot at unsuspecting enemies.
