besides finding a leader, it wouldnt be that hard. Somewhere down the line of succession, there is a member of the other party. The only question is how far down the line is your guy.[/quote]

YEP-- we would not agree on the date, the who, the how, and what they would do-- and with everyone toting --never happen

And you really think any of them could stage a coup because they were military? That's not how it works. When you become the commander in chief you ARE the military. The reason we haven't had coups is mostly cultural. We've never had one before. In other countries that's the way of life. Many coups are also instigated by foreign governments. But it all goes back to federalism. We have 50 independent states with their own military and commanders in chief, not to mention the people. Besides, there are other ways to "take over" the country without firing a shot.

actually we HAVE had a coup in this country, remember the JFK assassination? every president since, with the possible exception of reagan, has not been truly chosen by the people, but rather the powers behind the parties.

a list of presidents with military service, and the ranks they achieved;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...litary_service

all presidents that have military service were officers except one;

ulysses s grant
rutherford b hayes
james garfield
chester a aurthur
benjamin harrison
dwight d eisenhower

We experienced a coup in 1963 when President Kennedy was assassinated. The Oswald lone gunman story was a carefully fabricated diversion designed to hide the real plotters. A coup does not necessarily mean the taking out of the whole government.
