Clinton: Trump can start by 'making things in America again' - World - CBC News

This was probably the high point of last nights speech and it certainly resonated with the low-information crowd gathered.

Should businessman Trump who has pledged to build a wall on the southern border and slap tariffs on good coming from Mexico and elsewhere be demonized because he played by the rules set up and supported by high profile Democrats such as Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton?

You have to admit Trump making ties in China is very hypocritical.

I see Trump the businessman like any other company - his strongest loyalty should be to making money.

Trump is a cut-throat business man, ofcourse he is looking for vendors across the globe.

As a President he won't be throwing money either.

Make America Great Again!

Why does looking for vendors across the globe make one a cut-throat businessman? Would you say Apple is a cut-throat company for making electronics in China with parts sourced from other countries?

Trump is a businessman who has to compete with others who make ties in China.

The problem is the 2000 China Trade Act.

Yes it is in Apple's case as well.

Squeezing every $ that impacts their bottom line.

What about their duty to the shareholder? I certainly wouldn't want Apple acting patriotic if it means they'll sell less stuff and hurt my stock value.

Trump can choose to sell products made overseas or not sell anything putting those he does employ on the unemployment line. His proposals will try and change that.

Red Wing is one of the few companies left in the US making shoes. They also have numerous subsidiaries like Worx and Red Setter that are made overseas that are decent shoes. There is a very limited market for their flag ship $300+ shoes made in the US when you can buy something similar for half the price or even less. They can choose to stay small or make money selling foreign made products.

This is the problem any company making something in this country faces. Here is direct quote from an acquaintance of mine that owns small manufacturing company that employs about 15 people with decent paying jobs.

Quote:
In January a company came to me about having all of our stoves made in China. They would be shipped to LLS boxed and ready to sell. This at a much bigger profit than I could ever make.....
This owner is stand up guy and didn't take this offer. He has the luxury of a niche market where there is no foreign competition. That can change overnight and he will face some very hard decisions. You can't manufacture something here if no one is going to buy it because the price is too high.

Hmmm, have you noticed we can't even buy dinnerware, not made in China. I am not even sure the US makes toilet paper here.....so if you can blame Trump for these things, why not blame the Clintons and the Bushes for polices they put in place? President Obama has brought in more foreign stuff!
