There was plenty of anti-slavery sentiment at the time. How do you think the country got to the point of fighting a bloody war that killed nearly a million people?

The anti-slavery part of the civil war was an after thought by Lincoln to try and unify the country to support the North. The war didn't start over slavery, there were slaves in the North and there were STILL some after the war ended.

Even in 2016 some people are still loyalist sympathizers who considered the colonists traitors and view anyone who dares stand against the 21st century government the same way.

I hear this argument all the time, but I call BS. The issue was slavery. What "state's rights" were they talking about? And please tell me what slaves existed in the North that was sanctioned by law.

In reality, there are STILL slaves in this country, but it's not legal. Human trafficking is real. And we had a recent case in my hometown of a Nigerian couple that had a Nigerian nanny as a slave. They got caught, thankfully. Hopefully, they will be deported and the nanny gets to stay.

We're all slaves. Try keeping your entire paycheck and see what that gets you.
Lincoln stood on his head to keep the states frome seceding and even offered to let the southern states keep their slaves and also talked about deporting them after the war was over.

Put on your hard hat for the ramifications on this one.

But I couldn't agree more.
