The same weak argument could be made to exclude any group of citizens from the presidency.

It's 18th century thinking, quite clearly. There was a great deal of concern, at the time, of foreign powers trying to assert control, or at least influence, over the fledgling United States. The general thinking was that someone born a foreign citizen might retain loyalty to that country. Or, at least, have divided loyalty.

Now, it is of course politically incorrect to say the above. But common sense is still common sense.

And a natural-born U.S. citizen who currently has or who previously had the citizenship of another country (such as Ted Cruz) can't have dual loyalties or at least have divided loyalties?

I don't think any "citizen" should be (p)resident. "Citizens" are subjects/slaves of the State. I'd rather have a human being with full freedom and who loves freedom to "lead" the droolers who believe that the (p)resident is anything more than the idiot that we would normally would avoid in public and certainly wouldn't allow to impose their will upon us by thug government...

But in this case, it's already written into the US Constitution, so there would have to be high sentiment and a valid reason to change the law. Not just "because".

No. The nature of political corruption is such that we dare not risk this. Most naturalized Americans may be fiercely loyal to their adopted country, but in a world where everything is for sale we would have no control over citizenships being sold to people whose interests and loyalties lie elsewhere.

Yes, because I want to win the green card lottery, go to America, get a job sweeping floors, and work my way up to being the President. The current law stands in the way.
