Well doesn't this sound like a great idea, what would even be the point in a military tribunal for US citizens since the US court system already covers terrorism.

Quote:
A President Donald Trump might push for Americans accused of terrorism to be tried in a military tribunal at the U.S. Navy base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, the Republican nominee told the Miami Herald on Thursday.
“I would say they could be tried there, that would be fine,” Trump said in a brief interview ahead of his speech to home builders in Miami Beach.

Under current federal law, it’s illegal to try U.S. citizens at military commissions. Changing the law would require an act of Congress.

If captured on the battlefield? Yeah I would go along with that.

Absolutely. You are now an enemy combatant, what's the problem?

it depends, if they are caught on the battlefield overseas, then yes, they should go through a military tribunal, after all they are enemy combatants.

on the other hand, if they commit acts of terror here in this country, then they should go through the civilian courts, and if convicted spend their time in maximum security prisons. however if there is a wave of terrorism in this country, then congress needs to change the laws so that anyone arrested on terrorism charges can then be tried in a military court.

He indicated terrorists, not enemy combatants so how do you define terrorists, Timothy McVeigh, Black Panthers, Domestic terrorists, black panthers?

Military tribunals have also been very ineffective, I don't see why anyone would think they are a great idea.
Keeping Guantanamo open just for enemy combatants is very wasteful not to mention the picture of sending a US citizen off there for trial.

I imagine Hillary will just off them with a drone like Obama (along with some innocent bystanders). Trump and Clinton are both kooks.

Oh, we'll just leave that up to whatever administration's in power at the time to define. Not that it could ever be abused. To make it more palatable we'll just include the word "Patriot" somewhere in the legislation.

Yes I can't wait for the trials of American Citizens in Guantanamo, that should go over big. I don't think he even knows that we already try terrorists in US courts.
