they did. it went nowhere, because the Republicans wanted to use the issue as a political football to pass ideologically-driven cuts to planned parenthood, the ACA, to deregulate herbicides, and to ensure truck drivers could legally drive for 80-hours a week.
Did you bother to read the bill? It's packed with garbage having nothing whatsoever to do with Zika. For example, it includes a provision for 325 million dollars for undefined “Global Health Programs”. It's just a slush fund.
I would also remind you that Democrats blocked a GOP Zika bill because it DIDN'T include money for Planned Parenthood.
Washington (CNN)Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a Zika funding measure over the objections of Republicans, and both sides are trying to figure out a path forward to find a compromise.
The vote, which needed 60 to advance, failed 52-48. Democrats on Monday vowed to defeat the $1.1 billion package that was agreed to by House and Senate Republican negotiators -- and approved in the GOP-controlled House last week -- because it contained what Democrats called "poison pills" inserted in the measure.

It's real easy, ease the EPA rules on pesticides and as a temporary measure back off of planned parenthood because that can be done later.
Anyone who advocates widespread DDT use is condemning hundreds of thousands -- including the unborn -- to a myriad of illness.
Yes, those of us from the older generation know this. Puerto Rico refused US shipment of Naled to kill mosquitoes because it is unsafe and can cause it's own birth defecst, yet this is what is being using in Florida.
I live in Naples, 130 miles from Miami, and they are spraying using this from planes and on the ground. I read that they have announced that should any local transmission occur, they have a "more potent" pesticide than Naled which will be used. Wonderful. What is THAT? Irony? The median age here is 62 years old.
Yes, let's fight Zika. Let's use the most effective tool - DDT.
The EPA took seven months to hold hearings where they went over reports, data and studies and listened to expert testimony on DDT. The final report issued by the EPA committee that was in charge of this in depth review said that DDT was a relatively safe and effective means to control mosquitos and the disease they transmit with minimal impact to the environment. The director of the EPA, who chose not to attend the meetings and supposedly didn't read the report, effectively banned DDT.
If Obama was serious about Zika, he would have the EPA objectively review that report and reverse, or at least relax, the ban on DDT.
