On the one hand, there are times when people appreciate the president dropping by to offer moral support. Ono the other hand, logistics (as noted already) come into play for such a visit.
I do not fault President Obama for not going to Baton Rouge. Yet, if he decides to go, so be it.
There are seemingly no end of natural disasters for a president (or a candidate) to attend if they so desire. We now have devastating fires going on in California, but no one seems upset that the President, or Trump or Clinton, for that matter, are not going out to 'view' peoples homes burning up.
President Obama has already ordered Federal aid to those poor people of Louisiana. I have little doubt that if they had to chose between a Presidential visit or such aid, the afflicted people would choose the aid.
So now the state has to divert much needed resources and personnel and time and energy--which are already stretched thin from dealing with this ongoing natural disaster--from doing the work that actually helps the victims to closing roads and providing security in order to pander to that YUGE orange ego so he can get his photo op. All those people waiting for help can just wait a little longer because the orange man needs to feed his narcissist need for constant, unending attention.
And the cult cheers.
I bet the victims of this disaster don't, though. Not even in red, red Louisiana.

Wonder what the people Trump speaks with will have to say. Maybe they will support you're opinion and say government should stay away when people die, 40 thousand homes are under water and 85,000 are homeless. Nothing a leader like a president can do. It's his job to represent them but it's better if he doesn't. We will see.
OTOH, Bush wasted no time canceling his vacation and personally visiting the victims of Katrina. He took a lot of unfair blame from the liberal celebrities. Obama apparently only cares about his golf swing.
The difference is that they now have professionals running FEMA, one thing that we learned from Katrina is that is not a good place for some political hack that was unqualified. Their response was slow and Brownie was eventually removed.

We’ve seen this story before in Louisiana, and we don’t deserve a sequel. In 2005, a fly-over by a vacationing President George W. Bush became a symbol of official neglect for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The current president was among those making political hay out of Bush’s aloofness.
The Advocate says if Obama was able to “interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe that’s displaced thousands.â€
Obama is not the only one who has been criticized for not paying enough attention to the battered state. Both Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump have stayed mum on the floods. (Clinton tweeted about them once on Tuesday, but that’s it.) Politicians only care about the money they can steal from citizens to enrich their own lives!
The left only sees what fits their narrative. Obama playing golf while people drowning is not so much an issue just like he was Heading to the golf course right after the Beheading!
Please don't force me to continue defending Obama, I already had to defend him in another thread today, and twice in one day is a little overwhelming for me. I'm feeling a little ill.
That being said, if Obama went and toured Louisana, that would require resources to be diverted which shouldn't be. It would be an unnecessary distraction.
Even having Airforce One enter that airspace would mean flights carrying supplies or support personnel would be delayed or diverted.
oddly enough i agree here. bush was unfairly excoriated because of the fly over, people thought he should have landed and toured the area, but they didnt realize, or care, that the nola airport had flights going in and out all day long, and to have the president land would have created a huge mess.
the same thing with obama going in now. what kind of mess is that going to create? what resources are going to be delayed because he shows up?
there is going to be a time when he does need to show up and tour the area, now is not the time.

You obviously miss the point. Obama is playing golf and perusing candy shops in Martha's Viniard. Ain't that special.
Instead he should be back in Washington in a huddle with problem solvers that can assist the people of Louisiana.

Cleary. Biggest flop of a president we've ever seen. Flying over is one (lame) thing, playing freaking golf (!!!) while peoples's lives flounder is entirely another thing.

Speaking of his golfing he has played about 308 so far while in Office.
That's getting close to a year of his time not mentioning his other personal time away from the white House. 12.5% of his terms spent on just golf alone.
To be fair, there is a huge difference between Katrina and this flood.
Honestly, I don't feel Obama should travel to Louisana over this flood.
