Disagree. Business drives our influence, and the military assists in driving this influence. The military has been used historically in the US to protect business interests, and US foreign policy has been influenced heavily by business.

Looks like the "Great Game" is back on, this time it's the Chinese and the Russians as the imperialist powers. The West better up it's game or we're done for. We need to bring back some form of colonial empires but with a greater level of self government and more focus on self reliance.
If this is China's first overseas base how does that equal imperilism?

What would you call the numerous bases we have all iver the world?

Lets at least be honest about things. The comment mentions is some miles from a US base, does that mean we're imperiliastic too and since we were there before they were couldn't they claim its an answer to our imperialistic moves?

I'm all for USA first but this kind of rhetoric is just something other than a honest narrative, its called saber rattling.

Fair point. At any rate, they have become intertwined to serve to the interests of the country as a whole.

The Chinese are being smart. We park a military bases in a port (carrier group) all around the world. The day is near when someone will decide its time and sink one. Yeah yeah yeah, no one thought anyone would topple the twin towers either.

Land bases for all their vulnerabilities exist only when two or more countries have a strong enough relationship to get them built.

Look around, just what do you think the DPRK is doing, building nukes to fry San Fancisco? Not a chance. Nukes do to carrier battle grouos what airplanes did to battleships, made them obsolete.

I know, we have all this stuff. Well, hows all that stuff working out? We finally learned its that soldier in the sand that has to get the job done and if you don't keep them there the only thing that we end up doing is going back, to the sand to do again what we already did before.

Oh, and the DPRK is run by lunatics, they care less about our technological superiority. They knownas everyone else is figuring out that we're spending our country out of influence while others like the Chineae are buying it.

SMH. You have no idea what you are talking about. Africa is NOT a country. It is a continent with over 50 nations. Further, your post-independence information is highly inaccurate.

Let's just start here...why would a clean and beautiful city like Windhoek, Namibia want to look like crowded, polluted Beijing, China?

Great Movies- Nollywood and Ghallywood. They aren't western but appeal to a very large audience of nearly a billion people.
Music- Fela Kuti, Afrobeat and plenty of others
Consumer Products- Stuff for Africans but I don't think Americans like African consumer goods. https://www.kpmg.com/Africa/en/Issue...n%20Africa.pdf
Medical and Scientific Discoveries- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisi_Ezerioha , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Emeagwali
This is only Nigeria and were not even as advanced as half of the African nations especially a few of the Northern and Southern nations.
Their is also Wole Soyinka.

Also Ghana has never had a civil war since independence.
Mauritius, Algeria and Seychelles all have a higher HDI than China.
