He has his freedom- period-- just like the Jehovah Witness or Amish or some other religions-- or ust because they are obtuse!! -- but for the next president wanting to deport him - verbally --for practicing his freedom-- people this is not Germany!
While I can sort of understand he is trying to make a statement that is important to him, I think he could have done it in a much better way. He could use his celebrity and respect from younger blacks to guide and mentor them to become successful and overcome the things they see as wrong.
Where he is hurting himself is in the court of public opinion , and he forgets that because of America he is able to enjoy a good life and income. To disrespect America does nothing to move their causes further ahead, it can only do more harm than good.
This is a pretty good representation that makes Kaepernick's point for him probably better than his words ever could:
White man says USA isn't great and doesn't win anymore, gets nominated for president.
Black man says USA isn't great because cops are killing too many people of color, is asked to leave the country.
Isn't he supposed to be surfing on a platform that the US hasn't been kind to black people so they should vote for him? So what's the truth Trump? Is America bad and we should vote for you or do you think it's great and any critics should move?
Maybe telling people who are pointing out problems in America as it stands right now to leave the country isn't in his best interests.
I agree, service members do have those characteristics, but that doesn't mean they are protecting our freedoms because as we both agreed, our freedoms haven't been in jeopardy for about 150 years.
There were various mostly smaller wars with Mexico and Indians etc on US Soil and a few on US territories since the Civil War. I tend to agree that most all conflicts after WWII if not WWI were not fighting for US freedom, and don't care for the statement "fighting for our freedom", but I think all US war veterans deserve respect as does the anthem and the flag regardless. I sort of see Afghanistan and ISIS as fighting for our freedom, but better would be to not let foreigners from that region into the US.
Do you only consider wars fought on US soil fighting for our freedom?
We did that on purpose, targeting children? You have some proof other than some opinion piece, that we intentionally killed children, selecting the target because children were there?
You know, you bring up children and a doctor being killed in some other country where a war zone exists but how nothing finds its way in your post about the children slaughtered on our streets alnost daily by criminals or the two Nuns who were also Nurse Practitioners providing essential and life saving care to impoverished families right here in the USA.
Strange how you pick one example but ignore another.
I guess it always easier to blame mistakes on someone and ignore intentional acts by criminals.

Learn to read. You went on to say better one dead child than the number killed in the bombing.
There is no better, there is only lesser overall tragedies. How good of you to self proclaim what is and what is not a better number of dead children.

You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.
Don
It is not disrespecting America. It's disrespecting those doing bad things to it. The founders knew the value of protest which is why they made sure to protect it. That's as American as things get.
A true conservative (I consider myself one) would not support asking (or forcing) Mr. Kaepernick to leave the US because of what he said (no matter how reprehensible we found it).
To me, the main issue was pointing out that his claim (America oppresses blacks/people of color) is a lie. He's under no obligation not to hate America, but that doesn't change the truth (or lack thereof) of his claims.
Finally a sane response. I completely agree.
