Um, that's actually not true and it looks fairly likely that she has a case at least under US law.

Of course, I am not familiar with UK libel laws (one story said it is easier to prove libel in the UK than in the USA). However, in general, a US newspaper, in order to 'retract' a story, must display the retraction using the same type size/font and location as the original story.
On August 20, 2016, an article was published in the Daily Mail newspaper titled 'Racy photos, and troubling questions about his wife's past that could derail Trump.'
The article discussed whether allegations being made about Melania Trump could negatively affect her husband Donald Trump's presidential bid.

It's pretty clear that the Daily Mail article was specifically done to "derail" Trump and "negatively effect" his Campaign. They even said so in their Title and in the article. A tiny 'retraction' in small print is not enough - Let's not forget that this ALL began with Glenn Beck & Ted Cruz (long before Trump ever mentioned a word about Heidi Cruz) on Glenn Beck's website in the fall of 2015. They of the "True & Principled Conservatives" thought this was a great way to get Votes for Cruz - particularly in Utah.

The 'Daily Mail' is hardly the liberal media, this is a paper that is to the right of British Politics and is Conservative through and through, indeed it was always a staunch supporter of people like Margaret Thatcher.

BBC NEWS | UK | UK Politics | The politics of UK newspapers

A liberal paper would be something along the lines of 'The Guardian' or even the left leaning 'Daily Mirror', the left of centre 'The Independent' or left of centre publications such as 'The New Statesman'.

What happens if the courts find in favor of the Daily Mail?

To me Melania has been badly treated when it is her husband who is the candidate. I hope she wins

Actually it's a clever move by the Daily Mail's Lawyers as any public retraction lessens the case and should they lose the case they will not be paying out anywhere near as much.

The Daily Mail will have good Lawyers, the Daily Mail Group Trust (DMGT) earns around $2.7 Billion a year and employs around 10,000 people, it's Chairman is Billionaire Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere, the Rothmere family having founded the Newspaper Empire.
