It is absurd if you did not earn it, by having the skills appropriate to the wage level you need. We have tens of millions of jobs that pay quite well, and we do not tell anyone they cannot, by law, obtain the skills needed to get one.

The increased minimum wage and climate change crap certainly could not have helped.
Nor could have this:

Quote:
WHITEHALL, Wis. - Ashley Furniture, the nation's largest retailer of home decor, faces $431,000 in proposed federal safety and health fines for failing to protect workers from moving machine parts at its Whitehall upholstery factory. This penalty is in addition to more than $1.8 million in fines issued earlier this year during inspections at other company facilities in Wisconsin.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued Ashley Furniture one willful, five repeated and two serious citations on Oct. 19. Ashley faces the $431,000 in penalties as a result of an April 2015 inspection initiated under the Severe Violator Enforcement Program. Company headquarters in Arcadia received similar citations in January 2015 and July 2015.

"Workers risked amputation injuries each time they serviced the machinery," said Mark Hysell, OSHA's area director in Eau Claire. "Ashley Furniture failed to implement required safety procedures to protect machine operators until after OSHA opened its inspection. The company must make immediate, enforceable safety improvements at its facilities nationwide."

The agency determined that the company failed to implement procedures to prevent machines from unintentional start-up when operators changed blades, cleaned machines and cleared jams exposing workers to dangerous machine operating parts. The company failed to have operators use locking devices to prevent unexpected machine movement, a procedure known as lockout/tagout. This violation is among OSHA's most frequently cited and often results in death or permanent disability.

I see no statement that they are moving because of the minimum wage including the one you posted.

Climate change made them move, please. Reading Breitbart damages brain cells.

If the wife comes home driving a new luxury vehicle you cannot afford the fact she also bought a diamond necklace does not make her vehicle purchase justifiable.

It means they have to cut costs to help pay the fine.

Sounds like you are either for people being submitted to work place amputations and unsafe working conditions (exploitation in the work place) or in support of the wealthy management who would exploit our American workers.

Quote:
ARCADIA, Wis. – In a three-and-a-half year period, 4,500 employees at Ashley Furniture Industries Inc., in Arcadia, experienced more than 1,000 work-related injuries. One worker became another terrible statistic when he lost three fingers in July 2014 while operating a dangerous woodworking machine without required safety mechanisms in place. Of the injuries recorded, more than 100 were caused by similar machinery.

After the incident, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration conducted an inspection of the facility. Investigators identified 12 willful, 12 repeated and 14 serious safety violations at Ashley Furniture's Arcadia location, carrying a total of $1,766,000 in penalties. The company has also been placed in the Severe Violator Enforcement Program for failure to address these safety hazards. OSHA previously cited the Arcadia facility in 2014 after an employee suffered a partial finger amputation.

Businesses are in business to maximize shareholder value. The decision to close the factory should be done regardless if the fine holds up or not.

If you do not think regulatory and labor costs motivate companies to take actions you should not be labeling others brain damaged.
