So to get the free ride you must be a disabled elderly person(over 65) who can ride the bus. Hint I live atleast 2 blocks from a bus....good luck getting your ID renewed in snow before the March Primary.

Also reduced fare does not mean free. The reduced fairs don't apply to low income. That mother of 2 would be paying full fare for herself and the fare(reduced) for her children under 11. So that $4.00 trip becomes $6.00 if she can't find free baby siting.

Also that homeless person will be paying cash for fare since the fare card requires that the user have an address!

You live a very sheltered life, don't you?

I suggest you do some research and start with gun laws.

Begin with the constant attempt to ban so-called "assault" weapons.

First the rifles toy waht banned are NOT "assault weapons"

Second, rifles of ALL types are used less then "blunt" instruments like baseball bats.

Te so called "assault weapons are used EVEN LESS the other rifles by a LARGE margin.

Try yo explain why all the Attempt to ban an instrument when it is used so very little?

How many people have been cut by a lawn mower blade while the motor is running?

Yet, the lawn mower manufacturers required BY LAW to put warnings on ALL lawnmowers saying "Do NOT PUT YOUR HAND UNDER THE MOWER WHEN THE MOTOR IS RUNNING"

When was the last time you bought a new car?

The safety booklet, which is requited by law, is so big it it a separate booklet all by itself.

The length of the list of these types of things would blow your mind away.

I know people who were cut by a lawn mower blade while running and have witness people ignoring the warning.

Changes in DWI laws are an excellent example of addressing a problem, statistics, data and changes to regulations. Think of seat belts, helmets with tangible benefits.

The argument with voting laws is mostly perception but no proof, assuming they did change the laws how do you even verify that they are working since no wide spread fraud has been detected.

You may need public transportation to get to the doctor and so you have just spent another $4.00 or more(remember the this needs to be a round trip both to and from your location) and up.

You could walk to some stores in my neighborhood or public transportation again another $4.00 or more(best case $4.50).

Most apartment in Chicago do not have washing machines or dryers so you need to spend some cash using the laundry mat as well.

You can't walk to the DMV from most areas in Chicago.

You can get an unlimited ride pass that is good for 30 days for either $100 or $55(if over 65 or disabled) but if lost or stolen you are going to be paying cash until a replacement arrives.

Well there really is no single welfare office(there are multiple offices handling different things) and no need to keep going to it. Most benefits can arrive via direct deposit(SSA,SSI, unemployment, SNAP or TANF) or go straight to the landlord(Section 8) or Doctor(Medicare).

IDPH does not handle birth certificate and is that by driving? Public transportation takes at least twice a long so that 30 minute car trip turns into an hour if it is possible at all.

You can call or go online for the birth certificate but there is a $12.45 fee on top of the $15.00. You can get it mailed for free with an self addressed stamped letter and a $15.00 check and all of this takes time. You can go to the currency exchange but again a $5.00 fee. It would be cheapest and quickest to go downtown and get it. Only need to pay public transportation.

It is not one time. You need to pay the fee every time the id gets lost and you need a police report to get it free when stolen(more time and transportation money). Oh and a birth certificate alone is almost useless from an election stand point(does not prove where you currently reside, does completely tell me you have the right to vote(could be a legal immigrant).[/quote]

Its funny how the poor and disabled in Chicago can walk from anywhere to the voting polls and any assistance can be acquired via mail without any identification but getting to a DMV or paying for a birth certificate, which apparently no one in Chicago has, is just beyond anyones capacity or comprehension.

Well in the case of my grandma as she grew older there was assistance, someone drove her to the polls. However when she was younger she walked. The closest DMV is just within walking distance for someone healthy. It is not in walking distance for the disabled or elderly. Oh and for those working class poor it is not open on weekends.

Who says the id can be acquired by mail without id. You have to send in a copy of your State ID or other documentation with the envelope and the fee to get it. Or that any assistance can be acquired by mail. So you visited the Social Security office in 1998, you signed up for direct deposit and you have never needed to go there again.

Anyway there are far more polling places than dmv locations and they are open from 6-8 on election day. That is why I can simply walk to a polling place.

So they do have an ID to have gotten benefits.
