Interesting how this is being downplayed. SK and Japan are tweaking over this, what limited military resources we have in the region are at a high threat con, the possibility of escalation is very real. From where I'm sitting, I figure that NK is Chinas spoiled stepchild. It Chinas apron strings Kim is hiding behind. Seems whenever Kim wants an infusion of cash, be rattles his toys, and its the US that sticks the pacifist in his fat mouth.
Sheesh, I say tell China to nurse their own squalling brat. Otherwise, if we have to spin and spank it, stay out of the way. If China wants peaceful and prosperous trade, then deal with this. Both the US and Asian economies need each other, and this fat little tinpot is holding both hostage? Its time to lock the screaming toddler in his room without any supper. And China is the errant parent here.
Sooner or later, its going to blow up. Literally. The classic euphemism here, is a toddler with a can of gas and some strike anywhere matches. The only thing in question is how much gets burned down.
Iran too gets the nuke. How hard was that? Let this be a lesson on what happens when you don't finish the job. Are we fighting in Europe? Are we fighting in Southeast Asia? There is no substitute for victory or defeat.
What North Korea's opponents can actually do is problematic.
After the fourth test in January, China agreed to impose tougher UN sanctions. Further and even tougher sanctions are still possible, like blocking the export of fuel oil to North Korea.
That would be a drastic step which might halt the economy and cause serious suffering to ordinary people.
China's bottom line is that it does not want the collapse of the regime in Pyongyang if that leads to a chaotic power vacuum, possibly filled by the US and its allies.
First there was Hiroshima then there was Nakasaki...will Pyongyang be next?
