I don't know the history of these jokes, but there were Cecil the lion jokes, so I'm not surprised that there are jokes about a gorilla being shot.
It reminds me of 'the laying down game', renamed by someone in another country as 'planking' and suddenly everyone is in an uproar saying it's racist because people are imitating slaves on slave ships.
Meanwhile, here in West Virginia, I continue to fly the Confederate flag and nobody in town minds one bit. I also have only seen 2 Hillary license plates in the past 6 months and one of them was from an out of state car. (the other was on a Prius)
Halloween should be fun in this dorm. I'm guessing all costumes will need pre-approval. I bet wiping your own behind needs pre-approved too.
