I'm sitting here watching football, and both CBS and FOX have made appeals for people to reflect on those who need help from the effects of Hurricane Matthew, so make donations to charities like the American Red Cross. We have friends in effected areas of Florida (all OK, thankfully), more than ready to help if needed, and help through churches and aid organizations. I have no problem with that. So why was it that immediately after the storm blew out of Haiti and the Caribbean, we were sending an aircraft carrier and a hospital ship along with a full compliment of men and women? Sure they need help, but why does our government roll into immediate aid for a foreign country while here, we seem to need to make pleas during sporting events?

In all fairness, Haiti ain't all that foreign. We've certainly rolled into nations in our own hemisphere at the drop of a hat to kick off a war or to overthrow a government. Sending some aid is a nice change in policy.

That shouldn't preclude us from being able to help fellow Americans contemporaneously. This is the United States for crying out loud.

Haiti is a hopeless basket-case................unless some Spaniards, or similar, storm the island with military-force and take it over.

And yes, a takeover would be the humane thing to do....the current people "running" Haiti obviously are not up to the task.

Some "peoples" are MUCH better at creating and maintaining societies than others.

The American Red Cross and FEMA help out during and after disasters. I don't get the point you're trying to make? When I lived in Puerto Rico and a strong hurricane came to town, the Red Cross and FEMA were there to help.

Those "peoples" maintain societies all over the Caribbean and they do it just fine.

Haiti is a hopeless basketcase for a million reasons, and your country made damn sure they played a large role in creating that basketcase. They bought and paid for it in fact. Ask the Duvalier Family.

LMAO...Spaniards? Spain is a basket-case.

Besides, i didn't know that Haitians have control of hurricanes.

Former Haitian President of Senate is speaking out to tell the truth about Clinton Foundation at a Trump event! The former president said that Clinton was trying to buy him. She tried to appeal to him (bribe him).

" so make donations to charities like the American Red Cross."

Having dealt with red cross several times, and I wouldn't give the sweat off my b..ls.

I try not to use crude language but, I detest them this much, so I apologize if any one is offended.

Who exactly made this appeal during football? The network, a charity, a gov't agency, the NFL?

President Obama has ordered federal aid to be sent to supplement state, tribal, and local relief efforts.

As for the the amount that goes to foreign countries and the amount that stays within the states, I think the most universal answer available is that congress allocates money to different things for varying reason and sometimes those reasons are a little ****ed up. Though in some cases, state/county/city governments have to enroll in a federal program, that generally costs them tax money, to be eligible for aid and if they choose not to, they won't get aid or will get limited aid. Had an incident like that in the state I grew up in.
