An altruistic Republic or democracy will generally always operate with at least a small amount of social democracy, so your posited position is unlikely.

We do need some kind of welfare for people who truly deserve it. It would be inhuman to ignore our own. I would happily pay a percentage of my tax to veterans, people with physical or mental issues & support unemployed for a grace period. I would not want to pay for irresponsible people who decide to have kids when they cannot afford them. They should not qualify for any govt assistance unless the mother or child have unexpected health issues. Using taxes to help the needy bridges the class divide & also helps in keeping crime under check. But many people abuse the system & they should be punished as it is same like stealing from the poor.

I see the problem as more of globalism particularly as embraced by the left and just government intrusion and regulation by the left is collapsing America.

Midldle and working class America is being squeezed by the left and the right but much more so by the left who wants to regulate and control every event that happens.

You must be independently wealthy to think you will go through life and not need to avail yourself of a few of these social programs.I dont mind some of my taxes being used to finance such safety nets whether i use them or not..
What will happen with the elimination of all government social programs? a lot of your fellow Americans will not get education and by default no jobs, many will starve to death or go to an early grave due to untreated medical maladies, crime and violence will soar as many will have nothing thereby having nothing to lose.
i'm wondering what the difference is between your scenario and total anarchy.

Before 1933, and national socialism, public charity was considered repugnant and an embarrassment.

There's nothing related to anarchy in not using public funds for private charity.

"No one should suffer because they lack {fill in the blank}" should be prefaced with "No one should be compelled to labor for the benefit of another, so that..." because slavery is not an acceptable solution to the ills of mankind.

I have yet to find a socialist who wasn't generous with other people's money.

Voluntary charity is a blessing.
Compulsory charity is a curse.

So far no one pointed out the obvious benefits to the abolition of American socialism:
[] No incentive for illegal immigrants
[] No benefits for "anchor babies"
[] No benefit for hiring undocumented workers "under the table"
[] No reward for divorces

Jet i think you are mixing up the terms social programs with actual socialism.if you are going to have a society theres no way you can get around some shared programs.
