...it's time for some reflection for the progressive party. It seemed to mistake the cult of personality that elected Obama twice with real support.

No doubt true. 100% agree. Democrats did screw up, and Hillary should not have been the nominee.

Democrats now will spend some time in the wilderness and have some serious rebuilding to do in order to return as a strong political party.

The irony of course is that if you look back to when everyone was speculating about who the nominees would be from both parties, (R's) & (D's) alike were saying it had better not be Bush & Hillary.

That was before we all found out as much as we did regarding Hillary's email fiasco. Then she had the press conference at the UN which virtually everyone except the koolaid drinkers knew she was lying through her teeth. Yet somehow, the DNC cheated to help her get the nomination over Bernie Sanders.
The regular folks kept repeating the various cover stories Hillary came up with, each more absurd than the last. After a while, all but the hardcore zealots could not keep repeating her lies to others as a means of defending her. Hence a lot of (D's) either stayed home, or even voted for the flawed candidate running as an (R).

The other issue is that just like good little apparatchiks, many (D's) tried overlooking the flaws, and whistled while walking by the graveyard, hoping no one would notice.
Unfortunately for the (D's), their nominee kept lying about it as more and more came out.
Bill Whittle calls it the Clinton Lie Ratchet, and I think he has hit the nail on the head, having watched Bill & Hillary over the many decades;

So yes, the (D's) screwed up by nominating her.
The fact so many (D's) still voted for her shows how many will vote party over country, which when you think of it is pathetic.

To further ambients point, this morning I was watching "This Week", and it reminded me of why I stopped watching. Representing the Democratic point of view were not moderates or even left leaning, reasoned individuals.
No, instead is was radical leftists like Van Jones & Katrina vanden Heuvel. These two definitely live in an alternate universe, spewing hatred and absurdities that the recent Democrat party has morphed into.
So even though the topic was how the (D's) need to get their act together after a crushing defeat not seen since 1928, these two were doubling down on the liberal/leftist insanity.
